In den vergangenen zwei Jahren widmete sich der in Berlin ansässige Jakob Hägslperger zunehmend seinem 

Soloprojekt K a l i p o . Auf eine Reihe von Remixen und Beiträgen zu Compilations, die auf dem Audiolith-Sublabel 

Stiff Little Spinners erschienen, folgt nun sein Debütalbum Ya r u t o . Als Kalipo verfolgt Häglsperger, der seit frühen 

Teenager-Tagen Musik macht und von Hip Hop über Downbeat bis hin zu Avantgarde-Musik eine Vielzahl von Ein-
flüssen aufgesogen hat, einen experimentellen Ansatz. »Mir geht es darum, eine eigene, zeitlose Sprache zu finden, 

einen Sound, der auch nach Jahren noch aufregend klingt.« Ya r u t o soll den Soundtrack für dunstige Sonntagnach-
mittage oder aber endorphinbefeuerte Clubnächte liefern.

 Ya r u t o ist ebenso sehr ein Produkt harter Arbeit wie es Resultat kritischer Selbstevaluation und gele-
gentlicher glücklicher Zufälle ist. »Wenn ich sechs Tage in Folge im Studio bin, verbringe ich fünf davon deprimiert, 

weil nichts zu funktionieren scheint. Ich bin angetrieben von diesen magischen vier Minuten, in denen plötzlich alles 

zusammenkommt.« Gewöhnlich spielt Häglsperger erst mit Samples herum, schafft daraus Patterns und nimmt diese 

ins Studio mit, um aus den rohen Skizzen mithilfe seines umfangreichen Fuhrparks an Analogsynthesizern, einem 

Rhodes Piano, einem Metallophon und Gitarren die Tracks zu bauen. Vocal-Samples werden von Häglsperger 

zerschnitten und neu arrangiert, bis die Silben ein Eigenleben entwickeln und das abstrakte Narrativ zu erzählen 

beginnen, welches den thematischen roten Faden dieses ansonsten intuitiv komponierten Albums ausmacht. Vom 

Opener »Embryo« über den Titeltrack bis hin zum abschließenden »Cloud Dancing II« vertont Ya r u t o eine Art un-
persönliche Biographie, deren Abschnitte stimmungsvoll angedeutet und von fragmentierten, körperlosen Vocals 

kommentiert werden.

 Ya r u t o erscheint auf dem Berliner Label Antime, das von Martin Steer betrieben wird, mit dem sich 

Hägelsperger bei der Elektropunk-Band Frittenbude um Songwriting und Produktion kümmert. »Da Martin mir und 

meinem kreativen Instinkt voll und ganz vertraut, fiel die Entscheidung leicht. Bei Antime kann ich mir Experimente 

erlauben und muss keine Kompromisse machen, obwohl meine Musik nicht unbedingt massentauglich ist«, sagt 

Häglsperger hinsichtlich der hypnotischen, Gamelan-beeinflussten Rhythmen von Tracks wie »Listen To You« oder 

subtilen Hommagen an Komponisten wie Steve Reich, dessen Music For 18 Musicians Häglsperger auf »Get 

Rich« anzitiert.

 Als sein eigener schärfster Kritiker hat Häglsperger, der auch in seinen energetischen Live-Sets mit rein 

analogem Equipement arbeitet, die Musik von den ersten Entwürfen bis zum fertigen Mix fast vollkommen auto-
nom produziert und sogar zum Artwork des Albums beigetragen. Nachdem sein erstes Hobby zum Vollzeitjob 

geworden war, entschied sich Häglsperger dafür, sich ein zweites zuzulegen und begann mit Analogphotographie 

zu experimentieren. Einige seiner Bilder wurden von den Antime-Designern Johann Steer und Helga Stirle in die 

Aufmachung der Doppel-LP eingearbeitet.
