Headlines play
twister with a man in the sky,
godfearing beads
hailing down the wooden steeple in Lviv.

II.
My back is a boat,
concave and pliable. I can speed
through yesterdays, somedays and now – beyond
mists of logic.

III.
A palm rests on my oar,
its crooked fingers combing
the earth for the smallest
memories. Shellshock. So close
my hull splinters where I anchor.
Amnesia shoots through a peephole,
handkerchiefs drowning
in a chemtrail of snow.

IV.
The city glows deeper
right before it falls – I scavenge
for lost socks left behind
at the airport, where only last hopes
check in & the Creator starts from scratch again.

Der Begriff „Kalpa“ entstammt der hinduistischen und buddhistischen Mythologie und bezeichnet dort die Zeit, die das Universum braucht, um zu entstehen, anzudauern und wieder zu vergehen. Ein solcher Abschnitt dauert je nach Auslegung über vier Millionen Jahre und wiederholt sich ewig. In meinem Stück habe ich mich von der Vorstellung eines zyklischen Universums und von einem ewigen Werden und Vergehen inspirieren lassen. Es gibt einen zentralen Ton, der während des ganzen Stücks im Zentrum steht, umspielt wird, manchmal fast verloren geht, aber doch immer präsent ist. Bezüge zur christlichen Apokalyptik gibt es aber auch: so ist eines der Instrumente die Posaune, und auch die Zahl 7 ist in der Struktur meines Stücks sehr wichtig: Es gibt sieben Abschnitte, in denen bestimmte Klangereignisse jeweils einmal vorkommen, aber nicht immer im gleichen Ablauf. Ein wiederkehrendes Motiv sind auch sieben Gongschläge. Das Schlagwerkinstrumentarium ist bewusst klein gehalten und umfasst Gongs, Tamtam, Becken und Zimbeln, die dem Klang einen ritualistischen Charakter geben.
