Having built a reputation in their home nation of Italy under various solo and collaborative aliases, Thomas Schwartz & Fausto Fanizza come together once again for their debut Anjunadeep release, "You Would / Mad Dog".

The opening track on Above & Beyond's new "Anjunabeats Volume 11" compilation, "You Would" is a masterful piece of emotive electronic music. Setting the mood perfectly in the mix, it's a skilled blend of moody atmospherics, drawing from classic progressive elements and deep house grooves, subtly wound together with melancholic vocals and piano melodies.

"Mad Dog" steps up a gear, again combining dark tones with driving percussion in another sophisticated production. Delicate melodics make way for discordant strings and a surging bass riff as things build to an intense peak.

Following on from “You Would / Mad Dog”, their impressive debut Anjunadeep release, emerging Italian producers Thomas Schwartz & Fausto Fanizza return to the label with a three track EP, showcasing their masterful melodic touch.

A much sought after track ID from a recent James Grant mix, A-side “Kirk” is a prime example of Thomas and Fausto’s deep, brooding sound. Warm bass is intertwined with stuttering vocal snippets and subtle rising melodies in this gorgeous slow burner.

“This World” sees Schwarz and Fanizza delve deeper still. Pulsating low end builds towards a mesmeric breakdown, full of cascading chimes, atmospheric textures and ethereal vocals. Harking back to the classic Anjunadeep styles of Michael Cassette and Paul Keeley, whilst harnessing the modern label sound, it was an instant favourite at Anjuna HQ.

Showcasing a tougher edge to their repertoire, “Tomahawk” is packed with dark, moody bass notes and pitched down vocal cuts to create a proper peak-time roller. Their trademark melodic touch comes to the fore in another memorable finale.

Back in the groove after the Bank Holiday and our first fresh premiere of the week comes from MTA Records. The release is a debut EP and a track called 'Forever' from one of their latest signings, the Brighton based producer Braxton.

Braxton quickly caught the attention from BBC Radio 1 tastemakers Pete Tong, MistaJam, Danny Howard as well as international DJs from debut release. He’s generated heat online with his remixes for the likes of Kyla La Grange, Blonde, Chloe Black, Tourist and Grades which have amassed over half a million plays across Soundcloud and YouTube in less than a year.

Opening the package the first of two collaborations with vocalist Susie Ledge, ‘Secret Place’ fuses surging low-end with cascading melodies and wistful lyrics. Next up in rolling balearic style is ‘Voices’ featuring trademark Schwartz & Fanizza chords. ‘I Can’t Be Found’ also features Susie Ledge’s delicate vocals, above an evocative xylophone riff and atmospheric bass grooves. Reaching out of the Los Angeles skyline into shimmering heat haze, Dan Sieg returns to the familiar surroundings of Mango Alley with "Submood / Klunker". Rhythmic prowess provides a strong foundation as resolute beat frames all and percussive hi-hats draw lines that cross in intricate patterns – the steel girders that bind the city together. A melodic trope flows in "Submood" – repetitive sequencing creates a seemingly simple pattern that replicates itself in ever-evolving patterns; modern architectural design faces out towards the city, its pattern playing tricks of perspective in the consciousness of passers-by. Innovation supplies the mechanical underpinnings of "Klunker" as jagged edges and synth lines that cut like arc-welders into the sonic infrastructure. Intelligently revisited in understated precision, a new direction sees rippling arpeggios spiral in hypnotic patterns, shining like sun reflected across a wall of glass. Consistently referencing the original with care and consideration, Mononoid are Dutch masters of all they survey, their sonic building blocks creating a vision of modernity and dynamism in their precision-engineered work.
