Sometimes, you have a sparking idea, a thought which takes
shape within seconds. This is exactly what happened when I
received a demo by Patlac in spring 2017. The year before, we
had signed the lovely „Random Walks“ for our summer
compilation „BBQ Techno 6“, so we were already in touch,
but what we received from him this time was different,
advanced and something we could not resist. A selection of
titles, all of them as though they had been made to stay
together and a blueprint for our Livingroom Techno sound
idea. It was clear for me right from the start, that the next
Livingroom Techno would not be a compilation, but an album,
our first Livingroom Techno album.

Over the past months, we have refned the idea and more
titles were added to get what we have today: „Blinded“ -
probably the most homogenous album we have ever released.
„Blinded“ is a love letter, describing the feeling of Patlac’s
hometown, the city of Hamburg, or better said the metro line
U3, Hamburg’s oldest city line and the train which takes Patlac
to his studio every day. The ringline with a gap, which goes
overground most of the time and passes impressive scenarios
including the Landungsbrücken, Elbphilharmonie or the green
area of Winterhude had a huge infuence on the tracks and
set the mood Patlac wanted to create with this album.

On the way to his studio and back, Patlac listened to the
resulting tracks and loops via his phone over and over again. It
was his musical companion while looking out the window,
watching the city go by, analysing the changing light situation
from winter to summer, from day to night, cut off only by the
blinding refections of the passing silver metallic trains or the
city lights, forcing him to gently close his eyes, creating an
almost meditative moment. All of this melted together to
become „Blinded“ - a journey, discovering deep and
sophisticated corners between the poles of house, techno and
electro. Music to dance to or simply to listen to, it is relaxed
and moving at the same time. A true Livingroom Techno
release…

Hamburg-based photographer Katja Ruge sets the mood with
her contributed beautiful artwork photo, showing her blurred
and colourful interpretation of „Blinded“.

French trio, dOP celebrate their 11th Birthday in style, offering an innovative and exciting musical prospect for 2018. ‘The Dying Night’ is the first release of eleven monthly tracks on their new label, dOP Only, each dropping alongside a video or remix. Dedicated only to themselves, the label will showcase their distinctive electronic soundscape with a digital release every month, and as a mark of their 11th Birthday, a fan-voted vinyl will be printed at the end of the year with its best pick. So keep your eyes peeled for what is going to be one hell of a yearlong party.

Kicking off with ‘The Dying Night’, the trio have no problem with creating some pretty high expectations for the year ahead. The track opens with their usual tricky modular synth work, creating some real ambience that leaves room to both breath and intensify. The vocals aim to keep you hooked throughout, blending easily amongst a plethora of melodic synth work and punchy drum sequencing. Ultimately the track is a real exemplar of how such a distinct sound takes elegant turns to heighten both the individual and collective skills of the group together.

The Dying Night title is inspired by the novel written by Isaac Asimov.

Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.

Grammy nominated artist James Teej delivers the second release on the Opulence imprint with his 'The Only Constant' EP, which features a funk-infused deep house collaboration with No Regular Play's Greg Paulus.

James Teej's 'The Only Constant' EP also includes a solo track titled 'The Only Constant is Change' along with a remix by Dan Ghenacia.

'The Only Constant' EP is set for release February 2.

The release concludes with Kiki who is also making his label debut following a remix on My Favorite Robot in September. The German artist boasts an incredible discography with several releases on Bpitch Control, Moodmusic, Get Physical and Crosstown Rebels. A quiet stretch in 2017 makes his appearance here all the more welcome and he closes the release out in style with a killer reedition of ‘Lost’. Techno inspired, it’s acidic groove is immediately infectious while the reworked vocal elements sound fabulous, edited and processed to perfection, carrying a dramatic break and getting fully unleashed during a sizzling finale. Great remix from Kiki and a top notch release from Dear Deer, perhaps one of their best this year.
