Orchestration of a theme based on four notes. 
The challenge was to recreate an older style of vibe, somewhere between the classical and romantic era.
I started with a piano sketch and worked out the individual instrument parts in Sibelius. The performance was rendered on a PC, using Noteperformer, Audio Modeling and Samplemodeling strings, as well as some other physically modeled virtual instruments.
The midi sequencing and humanization algorithms were done in the DAW Reaper.

The space-time fabric tore suddenly in the middle of my journey. Instead of being back home I ended up in the 1960’s in a dark smokey music studio. Miles Davis is in the corner, I can make out just his profile. Bill Evans is trying out some chords on the piano over there. 
I sit down at another piano and try to explain to them what I saw on my journey. I don’t seem to find the words to describe everything, but one thing I know is that I’ve experienced some great moments.

I then proceed to go skipping across the perfectly manicured grass in the royal palace’s gardens. The fountains are casting rainbows of frequency resolved light as I lie down to take a nap… in an attempt to re-open the portal to take me from this 18th century world back into modern times. If I just imagine Bill Evans and Kieth Jarrett’s works while I try to ignore those dogs barking in the distance I might just be able to initiate a discontinuity in the space-time fabric. The impressionists, Monet, Debussy, Satie and other distractions are keeping me from getting a grasp to enter the jazz realm…

Flying through the clouds above the city. Higher and higher… until I reach the glistening portal. I can see earth move away slowly. Space is consuming me as I drift farther into the void. I can still hear the distant ‘ping’ of our solar system…and after six minutes I reach an enlightenment. After some excursions I then travel back in time through a period of blues to greet the Austro-Hungarian empress, of course, this is only possible via a quantum-based random number flux discontinuity.

This is an original piece. All voices consist of modeled instruments, not sample-based performances. The production was created and finalized on a single laptop with limited access to state-of-the-art sample libraries. You could call this a preliminary orchestral mockup from the raw MIDI data.

Luthier Pierre H. Erizias built this 5-string bass...and I made the song to go with it while he lent it to me...
The bass is light as a feather and sounds like an angel singing :-)
