Early morning by little Rengaskari Reef, less than a mile from our shore. This is an excerpt from an over night recording. Had to do a low cut as there's been some low rumble from an unknown source that has affected all nightly recordings of this spring from the sea side. (and is still audible)

flare (2021)

The Mistral, is a strong wind that commonly occurs in southern France, blowing down from the north along the lower Rhône River valley toward the Mediterranean Sea. As the wind reaches the Rhône delta, gusts can often hit speeds of 130 km (about 80 miles) per hour.

This recording was taken from the bedroom window of an old "Mas" (farmhouse) just outside Barbentane (Bouches-du-Rhône) with the mics pointing directly at a Plane tree (platane)at least 250 years old.

Wolves hunt down and kill their prey. A Wild boar in this case. You can also hear Red Deer.

Here is the story before the recording starts.

I was out photographing/recording. It was late, but the full moon helped lighting up my surroundings. I had the recorder in rec/pause and my headphones on, so all sounds around me was amplified like I usually have. Since I was trying to photograph animals. I was camouflaged. I rarely use a hide. Suddenly I heard that the ducks, lapwings and other birds to the left of me, flew up in the air worried about something. I looked in that direction with my binocular and then I saw two wolves coming in my direction. They were about 200m from me. The female (smaller) was about 50m ahead of the male. She stopped when she was about 40m from me a little to the left. She probably “sensed” that I was there… She sat down and looked around. The male wolf came straight at me since he was to the right of the female from my view. He stopped at about 30m from me. He stared at me or in my direction for 5 minutes… I was leaning to the left in a not so comfort position so I said to myself, please go now… my back hurts, but he didn’t. Instead, he lay down in the grass… and he continued staring at me (or my not camouflaged mic). I was completely still and after a few minutes he started to look around instead. The female passed him and lay down further away to the right of me. After 10-15 minutes he joined her. They changed positions a few times and seemed to be in no hurry. Then the female started to target a red deer bull. She crawled on her stomach closer and closer. The male followed about 30m behind her. She got closer and closer and when she had about 50m left to the red deer she got in to full attack. The male wolf followed and they both attacked the red deer bull. The deer defended himself really well with his big horns. He attacked the wolves so they had to back off a few times. The wolves continued their attack from two directions for a while, but then they gave up and lay down in the grass. After a while they tried again, but the deer still defended himself really well. He didn’t make the mistake to try and run. They gave up again and the walked away to the edge of the field and lay down just inside the forest. After about 20 minutes I heard a familiar sound. Wild boar heard was incoming…

Here my posted recording at soundcloud starts, since there was just breathing sounds and sounds when wolves and deer move in the grass previously, so not much to listen to.

Cette fois-ci, c’est Vinciane Despret qui vient remuer les cartes des idées. Proposer un nouveau point de départ, qui n'est précisément jamais là où on l’attend. Pour tracer des chemins ensemble, entre humains et non-humains.

Entre éthologie et philosophie des sciences, c’est surtout un art de rester en éveil, à l’écoute de tout ce qui vibre et évolue, dont il s’agit ici et maintenant.

Phaunoscopie #6 : Penser avec les animaux (avec Vinciane Despret)

... c'est la question que Maëlle, 30 ans, pose quand elle apprend qu'elle est atteinte d'un cancer du sein métastatique, réputé incurable (qui représente 10% des cancers du sein). Nous sommes alors en janvier 2016.

Dans ce premier épisode, elle retrace son diagnostic, son parcours de soin, son rapport à la féminité avant/après l’annonce de son cancer, ses interrogations sur la norme physique et sociale (il aurait fallu être en couple, vouloir et avoir des enfants), et plus largement son expérience de la marginalité.

C’est le récit d’une initiation brutale au sexisme profondément ancré dans une société qui, jusqu’au coeur du dépouillement qu’induit le cancer, refuse de laisser les femmes être des patientes commes les autres ...

If you are going to steal, steal from the best. An electronic improvisation on bass flute with the materials from Luigi Nono's Das Atmende Klarsein. Not as a tribute, because I do not follow his processes, nor try to imitate his sound or atmosphere. However, I try to express a heartfelt gratitude for his work over the course of five and a half minutes.

Philippe Pujol, journaliste et écrivain, a passé 11 ans à couvrir les faits-divers pour le journal « La Marseillaise ». 11 ans de cambriolages, de braquages, de meurtres, d'accidents, de trafics de stup, de crimes et de délits. Être faits-diversier, dans un quotidien, c'est un poste particulier. Surtout à Marseille. Surtout aussi longtemps. 

Comment ça marche ? Comment on s’insère dans le monde des flics et des voyous quand on n'y connait rien ni personne ? Comment on le fait dans une ville comme Marseille, avec tout ce que ça comporte de réalités sociales parfois complexes ? Comment est-ce qu'on fait vivre, jour après jour, la délinquance du quotidien, celle qui ne fait  ni la Une, ni le 20 heures ? Et comment est-ce qu'on en sort, qu'on passe à autre chose ?

Dans cette série hebdomadaire en 7 épisodes, sur une idée originale d’Anne-Sophie Lebon, Philippe Pujol se raconte et raconte un certain type de journalisme, au travers d’anecdotes où le tragique le dispute au comique, et où le médiocre n’est jamais très loin du sublime.

Désordres ordinaires | Épisode 6

Le pois chiche a roulé sa bosse. Arrivé à son pic de popularité ces dernières années car riche en protéines et en minéraux, le pois chiche est connu pour ses propriétés nutritives et s’avère très utile dans un régime sans viande. Poichichade, houmous, dans le couscous ou les falafels et même en farine et en eau… Le pois chiche se décline et se mêle un peu partout. Mais cette légumineuse modeste souvent présentée comme issue de la cuisine méditerranéenne possède aussi une histoire culinaire et sociale multiséculaire à cheval sur l’Inde, l’Asie et le Moyen-Orient. 

Émilie a d’abord rendu visite à Raphaëlle Jorgensen de la structure Virevent, agricultrice qui cultive des pois chiche près de la commune de Oraison en Provence. 

En deuxième partie, Joan Weisz-Myara fondateur de Street Press et vendeur de houmous à ses heures perdues vient parler de sa passion pour cette préparation onctueuse dont il donne (presque) la recette.

Le rapport à son·sa médecin est l’un des plus intimes. En période pandémique, plus que jamais, ils·elles rassurent et accompagnent. Mais cette expérience est loin d’être positive pour tou·te·s, notamment pour les personnes qui ne sont pas hétérosexuelles et cisgenres.

Si les minorités sexuelles et de genre font l’objet d’un mauvais traitement médical, c’est sans doute parce qu’elles n’existent pas dans la formation des soignant·es, si ce n’est sous un prisme pathologisant. Les médecins ont-ils·elles conscience que leur profession est traversée par l’hétéronormativité ? 

Camille Regache s’entretient avec Baptiste Beaulieu, médecin militant et auteur.

Program note: 

The internet is ubiquitous but largely experienced as immaterial. Often it is experienced like a ghost or spirit; an invisible, ethereal animating force rapidly reshaping what we think of as reality.
While learning about the United States National Security Agency’s global spying program, exposed by Edward Snowden, I was struck by the descriptions of the physical infrastructure that makes the internet function. I knew nothing about the fiber optic cables buried at the bottom of the ocean which allow the internet to function across continents. These extremely thin cables send patterns of light across oceans, transmitting data. They create a web of wires wrapping around the world, like a sunken land-bridge. Our experiences, conversations, hopes, dreams, and intimate secrets are transmitted from one continent to another through these thin threads of light; they bind the world together in this strange, beautiful, and terrifying way.
