There are a select few DJs that have the ability to pre-empt the music industry’s natural tendency to change. Andrew Dunn is one such DJ. Style – Deep-Electronic-Soulful-House.

Andrew first picked up the headphones in 1997, and at the tender age 18 was already securing regular sets at some of Cape Town hottest underground spots, including the legendary Club Pure., Andrew quickly grew from strength to strength sharpening his natural talent. Back in the day the preferred genre was rave (club trance), but towards the end of 2000 when Andrew realised that the rave culture had reached a critical mass, he re-invented his sound and began to play progressive house. 

Shortly before a 1 year working holiday to the UK Andrew was playing at clubs where he was diversifying his signature progressive sound. When Andrew returned to South Africa in 2003 he brought back a deeper and funkier sound. His music taste had matured and his mixing was also honed to the next level. Suddenly he found himself positioned ideally in a dance music scene that at the time was rediscovering the joy of house music. Andrew has been a regular name around Cape Town over the years. He has played at some of the finest and favorite venues in the Cape (like Cafe Caprice), playing his unique house music sound that he has developed over 20 years in the industry.

As a DJ Andrew has the composure and professionalism likened to some of the biggest names in the scene. He knows how to work a crowd and build energy through the mechanics of a good mix. His track selection is guaranteed to get the masses moving and the ladies smiling. In the day and age of mass produced events and cheap music, it’s totally refreshing to hear a DJ that invests so much effort and thought into his mixing and sets. 

Lately, you can find him around cafes, bars and, restaurants like The Station on Bree, Mynt Cafe Camps Bay Cape Town which has been a regular spot post the Covid pandemic playing his Unique Down-Tempo Beats.
