NIGHTSHARK - DUB (9/9/11)

This is a track I recorded ages ago with my good friends Bret Sexton (playing alto sax thru an old Ampeg combo amp, running a pickup from his mouthpiece thru various effects, including a Roland Space Echo), Mike Buckley (electric guitar thru an Echoplex), & J.C Thompson (who had been playing electric bass for about 4 months at this point). We improvised it on the spot & recorded it live (no overdubs or mixing tricks). I personally think it's still one of the best things I've ever documented on my humble relic of a portastudio...hope you enjoy it!

This is Bret Sexton on alto saxophone, Mike Buckley on guitar, and me on drums. These spaces derive their initial inspiration from specific drummers I admire. As the title implies, this one takes the uptempo playing of Joey Baron and Jack DeJohnette as it's starting point. This trio has only played together twice and doesn't have a name yet. Enjoy!

I was born in 1976 and grew up in New Jersey. I graduated from Rutgers College in 1999 with a B.A. in Music. I moved to Denver in 1999, and currently work with Zach Bauer in a songwriting collaboration, as well as with a host of local improvisors. I also play drums in Nightshark and occasionally perform extended technique percussion solos.
