Mix 023: Interstellar

5 weeks ago on New Years Day 2015, I started to teach myself how to beatmatch on a pair of old and battered CDJ100s I bought off a friend. This is the result of what I learnt during that time with daily practice.

Mix was recorded one Sunday afternoon on the fly with no planning, with just 2 decks and a mixer. BPM counters and visual aids are covered by black tape. Some assistance (annoyance) from my cat. 

Starts off locking into a groove with dark and brooding techno before a transition into a lighter mood and then back into some melodic techno and finishing with a vocal. Enjoy!

Mix 003: Summer's Over

This month's mix starts off lush and slow, with a fantastic remix of Marshall Jefferson's classic track - 'Mushrooms' by the Salt City Orchestra. 

It then delves into tougher tech house territory before roaring into full blown techno with a hint of soul.

Summer of 2015/2016 in Melbourne has been a pretty awesome so far. So many gigs, so many quality festivals and so much good music on offer. I can't remember ever having so much fun dancing while the sun goes down, especially at LTEC on NYD. This mix reflects the music that is inspiring me lately, first hour explores deeper shades of house and the second hour picks up the pace and drives it home with some techno.

I had a week’s worth of downtime recovering from a surgical tooth extraction -  this gave me lots of time to sort through my music library pulling out old and new tracks for this mix. 
Granted I was heavily medicated on opiate painkillers, feeling pretty drugged up and ummm kinda fantastic :D 

Maybe this influenced my track choices going into some deep twisted territory before picking up the pace for a melodic techno finish

Final mix for 2017, what a year this has been! I’ve experienced some amazing gigs, met lots of old and new friends in different parts of the world, made heaps of fun memories and will carry all those experiences with me into the new year 😃

This mix was heavily influenced by Bedouin’s ‘desert house’ sound - mysterious, hints of middle eastern melodies, deep and spiritual with a hint of soul. Keeping things under 118bpm for most of the mix, it still packs a serious punch when things heat up in the middle. Enjoy!
