My first 90's dance music mix was really well-received, so when I was given the opportunity to play another set of old school tunes, I jumped at the chance. I've decided to turn this into a proper series and try to get one of these done every once in a while covering all my old tunes up until the mid 2000s (as that's really the limit to the term "old school" or "classic").

This, like the previous mix was recorded live at a gig I played. The gig was on a Saturday afternoon in a park, so the track selection mostly reflects that time/place. As with the previous mix, there are some credible tunes, some questionable choices and some downright cheese. And just like in the previous mix, there are some great mixes, and there are some shonky/lazy ones. Ultimately, this is meant to just be a mix of tracks that will make you say "oh man I remember this!" and hopefully reminisce about some of the happy times you heard each of the tracks.

NOTE - The mix fades out and back in at two points. This is because at the gig there were some seriously strong winds blowing (I'm talking strong enough to knock shit over), and a couple of times we had some dramas with skipping music and other unpleasant things. So rather than subject you to that, I've just removed those moments from the mix. It doesn't interrupt the flow too much, but if it upsets you I'm sorry.

Here is a recording of a guest mix a I did for Detroit based radio station 313.FM for the show Planet Funk. I decided to take some inspiration from the show's name and dig into my new school disco, electronic funk, and house collection. It features a mixture of new and old tracks, as well as some personal favourite cuts from Detroit producers such as Los Hermanos, and the late K-Hand and Mike Huckaby.

This week we welcome Eora local legend - Andrew Wowk. Andrew Wowk is a DJ, producer, radio host, promoter, and writer who has been active in the Eroa (Sydney) electronic music scene for over fifteen years. First introduced to dance music culture through work experience at community radio station Rhythm FM at age 16, Andrew exudes a passion for and knowledge of music that is the result of years of experience.
As a DJ, Andrew has earned a reputation for refined technical skills and eclectic track selection. His tastes run the gamut of techno, house, breakbeat, drum & bass and jungle, electro, and leftfield electronica. But even with such a wide range of music at his disposal, he finds ways to combine these numerous sounds into a cohesive whole. Often focused more on telling a story or creating a particular feeling with his sets, he regularly moves fluidly across stylistic boundaries, preferring to find other similarities between tracks than just their genre. 

Outside of club DJing, Andrew also produces music under the alias End User License Agreement, which has been released on international labels such as Biotech Recordings and Baroque Recordings, and Australian labels such as Extra Spicy, Communication Records, Monarch Recordings, and Late Night Music.

This is Volume 2 of a series I've started called "Hot Track Time Machine." Essentially, I just dig through my old tunes and chuck together a mix, usually with some sort of theme.

Time To Track On 2SER (30/05/2024 - Radioactive Man Guest Mix and Interview)

Here is a live recording of a set I played at Revolver Upstairs in Naarm/Melbourne on 17th May, 2024. I was playing 5-7am following on from DJ Kiti and leading into Anyo, so I tried to transition from the late night techno session to the early morning house kick-on with my set. 

It was my first time playing at Revolver and I had a blast. Hope you enjoy listening to the mix as much I enjoyed playing the gig. 

FYI: There's a portion of the recording missing due to the batteries in my recorder running out, so I've just faded in and out either side of where it's missing.

This is a live recording of a set I played on 11/10/2024 for local crew DUNJ. They were hosting Om Unit for the Sydney leg of his Acid Dub Studies live show, and I played the opening set. I decided to select some of my favourite dub and acid influenced music in my collection so that it would be on-theme, but also wouldn't just tread the same ground as Om Unit by playing straight up dub. Time To Track On 2SER (27/02/2025 - Special Guest AUNTY VYRUS)

This is the latest edition of my retrospective mix series entitled "Hot Track Time Machine" in which I play some of my favourite tunes of all time from various genres. This edition focuses on the Techno-Meets-Hard-House-Meets-Trance sounds I loved in my mid to late teens (from around 1998-2003) that were pushed by DJs such as Nick Sentience and Fergie. As always with this particular series, the mix is more about the tunes than the mixing (and I haven't played a lot of these tracks in over 10 years) so some of the transitions are a bit wonky, but hopefully you enjoy the tracks as much as I do!

Note: There seem to be a couple of bits where the recording jumps. Not sure what happened there. Apologies.

Time To Track on 2SER (24/07/2025 - Special guests Bats and Ekul)

This mix was originally recorded for and aired on Nick Spurway's show on Radio Electronica Jena on 02/08/2025. 

Nick very kindly asked me to record a mix for his show and also interviewed me, asking some really interesting questions and in the process made me feel really nostalgic for the tracks in this mix. Part of the interview involved selecting and talking about three tracks. All three of my choices were tracks that were in some way really important in my journey as a DJ. One of them was "Scram" by Plump DJs, which was the first breaks track I ever heard and it kicked off a love for the genre which continues to this day. 

Reminiscing about "Scram" inspired me to record a mix that is a selection of breaks tracks which were important to me as a DJ in one way or another. It's by no means an exhaustive selection, but it definitely covers tracks which opened my eyes to new artists, labels or styles, are connected to memories of great gigs, and which I still play in my sets today.

Time To Track on 2SER (07/08/2024 - Kushkusshhh Guest Mix)

This is the latest in my "Hot Track Time Machine" series, where I dig through my music collection and play some of my favourite tracks from over the years I've been DJing that fit a particular theme. This volume's theme is "Ode To Detroit." 

I'm visiting Detroit in May/June 2016 and am extremely excited not only to see the birthplace of techno, but also explore one of the world's most fascinating cities. So I decided I would put together a mix of some of my favourite tracks from Detroit producers, artists who have been inspired by the Detroit techno and house scene, and tracks which have sampled classic Detroit house/techno tunes. 

As always, the mix is more about the tunes than the technical side of things.

I took the original in a more funky, percussive direction, reminiscent of the older "Hardgroove" style of techno made by the likes of Ben Sims, Mark Williams, Paul Mac, etc.

Here's a new techno track on a tribal/hardgroove tip. I've been going through a lot of my old records recently and I felt super inspired to write something that would have been released in the mid-2000s on labels like Ingoma, Primate etc. Hope you enjoy!

I've decided to sell this track on Bandcamp, with all proceeds going to bushfire relief in Australia. Currently in Australia we are going through one of the most severe bushfire seasons we have ever experienced. Millions of hectares of land have been burned, which has resulted in billions of native animals dying, and many people losing their homes (and even their lives). With that in mind, I will be donating the proceeds of all sales of the track to the NSW Rural Fire Service (www.rfs.nsw.gov.au) and Fire Relief For First Nations Communities (www.gofundme.com/f/fire-relief-fund-for-first-nations-communities)

Here is the latest in my Hot Track Time Machine series, a mix series where I go back through my collection and pick out some of my favourite tracks from a certain genre/style/vibe. This time I've selected some of my favourite banging, funky, party techno tunes that I played a lot back in the day, and were regularly played by the likes of Carl Cox, Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Billy Nasty, Slam, etc. This is definitely the most fun and funky techno can get, and these tracks hold a special place in my heart as many of them bring back memories of certain gigs I've played or attended. Hot Track Time Machine Vol. 5 (Funky/Loopy Party Techno Bangers)

I found a bunch of old mixes on an external hard drive, and in the interest in showing some of my musical journey of the years, have decided to upload them. 

This particular set was played back in 2013 at DNBBQ, a monthly outdoor drum & bass party we used to have in Sydney run by Foreign Dub. At the time I was quite into the more stirpped-down, techy, rolling sounds of SpectraSoul, Zero T, Skeptical, and so on, which you'll hear a lot of in the mix. There is also a very brief glimpse into my growing interest in half time and more leftfield stuff which was just starting to take shape at the time, and it was not very stylishly shoehorned into the middle of the set.

Andrew Wowk - Live @ DNBBQ (February 9th 2013)

Here is another unearthed recording from a recently found external hard drive. This is recorded live from Chinese Laundry playing the closing set after Photek. At the time I was being heavily inspired by the burgeoning "UK Bass" scene, and really loved how its artists were combining elements of techno, breakbeat, garage, dubstep, and drum & bass in their tracks and sets. 

Photek is of course a legend of drum & bass, but at the time had also been branching out more stylistically, and so I felt this was a great opportunity to try to weave together various sounds and genres inspired by his music. 

The set works its way through techno, breakbeat, dubstep, and drum & bass, trying to pay respects to Photek's history and influence as well as reflect what I was really into at the time.

Andrew Wowk - Live @ Chinese Laundry Feat. Photek (31/08/2012)

Andrew Wowk is a DJ, producer, radio host, promoter, and writer who has been active in the Eora (Sydney) electronic music scene for over 20 years. First introduced to dance music culture through work experience at community radio station Rhythm FM at age 16, Andrew exudes a passion for and knowledge of music that is the result of years of experience.

As a DJ, Andrew has earned a reputation for refined technical skills and eclectic track selection. His tastes run the gamut of techno, house, breakbeat, drum & bass and jungle, electro, and leftfield electronica, demonstrating a deep respect for the history of dance music, a love for its present, and excitement about its future. But even with such a wide range of music at his disposal, he finds ways to combine these numerous sounds into a cohesive whole. Often focused more on telling a story or creating a particular feeling with his sets, he regularly moves fluidly across stylistic boundaries, preferring to find other similarities between tracks than just their genre.

His intelligent approach to DJing has led to him playing at some of Sydney and Australia's most well-respected clubs/events, both as a headliner and as a support act for international artists. He has also received international recognition, being invited to play guest sets at Circus Osaka in Japan, DEPTH and Train Car House Party in Seattle, as well as perform on 313.FM in Detroit, WNYU in New York, and provide mixes for Animal Instinct in Berlin, Fnoob Radio, and Error Sessions in the UK.

Outside of club DJing, Andrew also produces music under the alias End User License Agreement, which has been released on labels such as Biotech Recordings, Baroque Recordings, Extra Spicy, Communication Records, Monarch Recordings, and Late Night Music. His remix of Floor Twenty’s “Say My Name” and his original track “Chonk” were both featured in Beatport’s and Juno's best bass music releases from 2021. He also hosts a weekly radio show "Time To Track" on 2SER, regularly writes for both print and online media, and runs events covering the spectrum of underground dance music, featuring previous headliners such as Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Marcus Intalex, Regis, Hodge, Adriana Lopez, Djinn, SNTS, and Nastia Reigel. 

Andrew is passionate about social and political issues and strongly believes in using music as a medium for addressing these issues. Much of the music he loves was originally created in tandem with social, cultural, and political movements, and he believes that contemporary music should also carry a message. To put this into practice, he launched Music For Change, a label which donates 100% of profits from all releases to various charities, alongside Jessica Tassone in 2021. Releases on the label have been supported by international artists such as Dave Clarke, Ani Klang, and Alchemist/Amy Kisnorbo, played on BBC Radio 1, and added to the rotation on local radio stations FBI Radio and 2SER.
