I was born in Lichtenberg, East Berlin, in 1977. Lichtenberg looked grey and dull and the only sightseeing attraction might well have been the Stasi headquarter. In the morning, the agents of the Stasi went to their office while I went to school. Once a week we had to sing our communist leads with our white shirts and little „pioneers“ scarves tied around our neck. 
Luckily, it wasn’t the only soundtrack of my youth. When I came back home, I could switch on the radio, tune in on the waves from the west and let my imagination travel to other places. I was not allowed to take a plane to the UK or to the US but in my own young mind, I could fly way further than that. I used to record all the music from the radio on my double tape deck. They were my first mixes. Except that at the time, I was the only one dancing to them in my 12m² bedroom. 

The mix I’m sharing here represents my first steps into the world of dance music, surrounded by the concrete of my neighborhood and printed on the last breathes of the Cold War. Some tracks might sound „cheesy“ today, but for me, at the time, all I could hear in them was this beat, this beat that makes you wanna have a good time, this beat that makes you wanna be free.

Johannes Klingebiel and the musicians of the Contrast Trio go way back. Both originally hailing from Frankfurt, they took their first musical steps playing together in various kinds of jazz groups (Johannes starting out as a drummer). So it only feels like a logical step for Johannes to rebuild one of their tunes, the sprawling "Sondernamen", a piece of music written for Frankfurt's "Luminale" festival. Resulting in two complimentary remixes, Johannes re-arranges the puzzle pieces, finding connections in the free floating energies of jazz and house music.

Andre Wakko was born in Brazil, the land of the colors and rhythms – between music, caipirinha and bananas. Now he lives in Berlin, developing his own style, mixing cultural backgrounds, in a washing machine, spun with the minimal art of repetition, dirty clothes and expensive hi hats. His music has some kind of crazy dionisic, ritual character. The spirit goes a little bit like this.
