The second release on my label, diviine, is a collaboration with Senegalese-American singer Marieme. I found her music during lockdown and was completely blown away by her voice. I was in a very dark place, and we wrote these songs from deep in our hearts during a time with no dancefloors or shows. In the spirit of diviine, we felt full creative freedom in the music. No one telling us how it should sound. It’s out now!

Enigma, polymath, visionary, DJ, producer, musician, artist: Andrew Bayer has been a cornerstone of Anjuna for over a decade. He's been responsible for the most experimental and ambitious artist albums on Anjunabeats. His 2011 debut ‘It’s Artificial’ merged glitch-hop, electronica and prog house, while on 2013’s ‘If It Were You, We’d Never Leave’ he pushed the envelope further with a critically-acclaimed journey of electronica and sunny, instrumental hip-hop. 2018's ‘In My Last Life’ wove the emotive songwriting of Ane Brun and Alison May into a modern alt-pop masterpiece.


In amongst this, Andrew has knocked out countless cutting-edge trance bangers to power his famed DJ sets – 'Super Human' (with Asbjørn), 'Magitek', 'Once Lydian', 'The District'... the list goes on. Respected as a true visionary and a headline talent within the trance world, as well as one of its only openly proud and vocal LGBTQ+ acts, his DJ sound has energised Ultra Music Festival, Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy (including a Madison Square Garden show), ASOT, Creamfields and clubs across the world.


A two-part album project, ‘Duality’ combines these two separate musical threads for the first time. ‘Duality’ pt. 1 explores Bayer’s passion for downtempo and indie-pop, while ‘Duality’ pt. 2 takes on his forward-thinking trance and progressive sound.


Crafted over three years, Bayer is joined by an eclectic cast of collaborators old and new. Drawing on electronic pop, indie songwriting and modern classical, ‘Duality pt. 1’ opens with ‘No Silence’ featuring songwriting from cult Icelandic band Vök.


One of many LGBTQ+ collaborators across the project, Danish singer-songwriter Asbjørn brings his technicolour style to two twisted pop masterpieces in the brilliant ‘American Boy’ and the dramatic, string-laded epic ‘Equal’ - which closes 'Duality pt. 1’.


Leading up to it is ‘Under Pressure’ with Anjunadeep’s rising star OLAN and ‘Matriarch’ with new talents Red Dragons, while ‘4/15/10 11:15AM - Volcano’ and ‘Thank You For Being With Us’ provide moments of instrumental reflection, reminiscent of Andrew’s breakthrough 2013 LP ‘If It Were You, We’d Never Leave’.

Andrew Bayer collaborates with Danish singer/songwriter Asbjørn on ‘American Boy’, out now.

Exploring cross-continental love in uncertain times, the indie-pop anthem ‘American Boy’ is taken from pt.1 of Andrew’s upcoming double album ‘Duality’, which leans into the experimental, boundary pushing side of his artistic persona.

Bayer and Asbjørn were introduced to each other by Above & Beyond’s Tony McGuinness, who set them up on a collaborative ‘blind date’ after Tony discovered Asbjørn’s music on Lulu Rouge’s ‘The Song Is In The Drum’ album. An epic joint effort emerged, ‘Super Human’, and the rest is history. They’ve also worked together on ‘Tomorrow Boys’ and recent single ‘Equal’, out now ahead of the release of ‘Duality’ pt. 1.

“I remember hearing [Asbjørn’s] music for the first time and thinking “this guy is completely out of my league!“. Tony took me to meet him in person at one of his electric shows in London, where I was completely floored once again. The best part was Asbjørn wanted to work with me! I was completely shook. “American Boy is written about a romance, which is fed by its own impossibility. In my experience, kamikaze relations are often easier to give into, cos they’re doomed anyway. Without the pressure of a potential future, what have you got to lose? Since day one, I have always struggled with how to present myself. Am I a dance music producer who does downtempo / experimental albums? Or is it the other way around? My first album had a bit of both, which is why I have referred to ‘Duality’ as the true followup to ‘It’s Artificial’. Part One focuses on the downtempo side of things with hints of indie-pop, while Part Two explores my progressive and trance roots. This is by far my most raw and honest work. On June 1, we released two songs from each part: “Equal” with Asbjørn (Official), and “Midnight” with Alison May.

I did not do this album alone. These are more than just “features,” these are collaborations. Together, we have woven a massive journey that is deeply personal, and showcases our most vulnerable selves. Many of these fabulous collaborators are also LGBT+, and I am so proud to be a part of this wonderful musical family.

‘Duality Part One’ is out now, and ‘Duality Part Two’ will follow on October 28th.
