To have a lucid dream simply means that you become aware in the dream that you are dreaming. This happens to most people at some point in their life and yet they are not aware that this is an experience that they can train themselves to have.

Difference between lucid dreaming and dream yoga

The morning Buddhist chants, as recited by the international Shambhala Buddhist community, offer a sweeping view of the central teachings of Buddhism.  These chants are recited every morning, and are a condensation of the essential teachings of Buddhism.  

The liturgies themselves are dense, and are designed to remind the student of the most important teachings of the spiritual path.  By reciting them daily, the student is repeatedly exposed to the central messages Buddhism.  The scope of these chants is vast, and the material unpacked in these talks cover a wide array of topics -- from emptiness, devotion, lineage, mahamudra, meditation, supplication etc.

This is the first in a series of talks I put together on the morning chants. This first talk is about setting the View. This concept of View is very important in our tradition. It denotes a sense of vision- of where we are going. In fact Right View is the first of the Eight Fold Noble path in Buddhism.

In these talks, I strive to make these daunting liturgies accessible.  Through lecture and discussion with those attending these talks, I bring these ancient liturgies into our modern lives, and reveal their power and profundity.

"Setting The View": First in a Lecture Series on the Morning Tibetan Buddhist Chants

This is the first in a series of talks by Dr. Andrew Holecek on Dream Yoga, a practice developed in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Sleep and dream provide a precious opportunity for spiritual awakening. By learning how to wake up in our dreams, we can transform sleep into a profound method to help us understand the nature of reality. Dream yoga is also an important preparation for death—lucid dreaming leads to lucid dying.  

Dr. Andrew Holecek is an author and Buddhist teacher. As a long-time student of Shambhala Buddhism, he frequently presents Buddhism from a contemporary perspective. In 2009, he released "The Power and the Pain: Transforming Spiritual Hardship into Joy" (Snow Lion Publications). Known as an expert on the death and dying teachings of Tibetan Buddhism, in early 2013, he will be releasing "Prepare to Die: A Spiritual and Practical Guide from the Buddhist Perspective". The Four Dharmas of Gampopa are a condensed summary of the entire spiritual path.  In the first part of this talk, we unpack the depth of these four profound lines.

In the second part, we explore The Shambhala Lineage Supplication. This chant provides the context for all the Shambhala teachings, and this chant highlights the central teachings.  
Shambhala is a unique blending of three Tibetan Buddhist lineages of wisdom: Dzogchen, Mahamdura, and Shambhala itself. Shambhala is unique not only in its emphasis on individual enlightenment, but on creating an enlightened society. It offers unique methods that allow one to transform everyday life into a spiritual path. 

In this talk, we explore Shambhala, it's root lineages and how they combine to deliver such power and blessing.

Four Dharmas & Shambhala Lineage: Second in a Lecture Series on the Morning Tibetan Buddhist Chants

In this second talk on Dream Yoga, we explore how the practice of Dream Yoga goes to the heart of Buddhism. It is an archetypal practice for the Buddhist path altogether. Some topics include: 
How the nature of mind is open, relaxed and spacious
How ego mistakes things to be solid, lasting and independent
Through dream yoga, we see that sleep and dreams come closer to reality than waking consciousness

Dream Yoga:An Archetypal Practice for the Buddhist path.

This is the first in a series of talks on the concept of the Pure Lands in Tibetan Buddhism. It is believed that when we die, the best place we can go is a Pure Land, a magical paradise as real as Earth, yet free of suffering. Being in a Pure Land promotes rapid spiritual progress and once we are there, we are assured of attaining enlightenment and being of greater service to others.
