“The Night is for Stillness” for solo cello, was given its title after the second line of the New Zealand Night Prayer. This very special prayer was read out during my late Uncle’s funeral and I was particularly touched by it.   This piece is from a set, “Three Pieces for Solo Cello”, which I wrote in 2011 especially for cellist, Ovidiu Marinescu. This particular movement was written very much in memory of my Uncle.  The three pieces were professionally recorded in Philadelphia, USA, and in 2013, were released on an album called “Moto Perpetuo – Moving Works for Cello” with Parma Recordings on the Navona label.

This work for bass clarinet and string quartet was commissioned by clarinetist Bruce Belton, who premiered the work at the Golden Gate Players Chamber Music Festival in 2017.

Andrew March was the winner of the first Masterprize International Composing Competition in 1998 with his orchestral piece Marine - à travers les arbres. He was born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, in November 1973. In 1992 he was accepted at the Royal College of Music to study composition with Jeremy Dale Roberts, graduating in 1996.
