This is a 1995 studio recording by The Little Dog Laughed, which I've just retrieved from audio cassette. This was probably the best constructed song we ever recorded. It was written as a prequel to a song called Joe and Sally; this is how they got together, and the other song is about how they didn't quite live happily ever after. I played guitar on this recording, and listening back I hear loads of Jadis in the verses, and plenty of Bill Nelson/Bebop Deluxe in the guitar solo...

I recorded it one night on my tiny Boss Micro-BR palmtop four-track, using a jazz-box sound on my Variax guitar.

I thought this was written by Lennon & McCartney, not realising it was orignally from "The Music Man"!
