Anthony Naples at Floresta - Waking Life '23

Recorded live somewhere in the southern Oregon wilderness, sunrise on Sunday October 1st 2023. I had the privilege of performing the closing set at the inaugural Osmosis In The Trees festival, a three stage affair spanning three days featuring an incredible lineup of artists from all over the Pacific Northwest.

A. Tonight and Every Night Usha: First heard in Daphni’s track Usha, this tune can be seen as a re-imagination. It begins with a one-bar acid bassline, merging with 808 drums. The catchy vocal sample, lifted from Usha Uthup’s 1984 classic “Main Gul Badan”, breathes into the groove. As the track unfolds, detuned pads and delayed stereo effects evolve it into a dreamy, immersive soundscape.

B. The Beat Goes on and on: Opening with a sample from The Whispers’ timeless ‘And the Beat Goes On’, this track layers two breakbeats over one another to create a dynamic percussive base. With its acid bassline and stereo sound effects, the tune feels constantly shifting, evolving, and hypnotic.

C. Tom with the Weather: The slowest track of the EP, combines layered breaks, bongos, 808s, 303 bassline and recorded guitar & keys. It features a Bill Hicks quote - “Today a young man on acid realized…” culminating in an ego-dissolving statement and a satirical sign-off reminiscent of a weatherman’s report. The second half transitions into a breakbeat-driven section, replacing the earlier disco groove, while weird, groovy effects ripple through the recurring sample, “Tom with the Weather”
