This piece is inspired by elements from minimalist composers Philip Glass, Ólafur Arnalds, and Jóhann Jóhannsson, as well as from John Mackey's Soprano Sax Concerto. The piece explores the various aspects of water, from gently flowing streams to more aggressive waterfalls.

Hearthside is a horn choir piece for 8 horn parts. The piece depicts images of the early winter season, especially the joy and celebration found in this time. This recording was performed live by the UNCG Horn Studio at the Southeast Horn Workshop in Nashville, TN in March 2016.

Liquid Vessel focuses primarily on the samples of my water bottle (in addition to other sampled and non-sampled sounds), which have been transformed and/or mangled into various synths, sounds, and rhythms in order to create an electronic piece with an organic origin.

Between Sunlight and Shadow (Horn and Piano Version)

"Paper tiger" is a literal English translation of the Chinese phrase zhilaohu (纸老虎／紙老虎). The term refers to something that seems threatening but is ineffectual and unable to withstand challenge. In this piece, I communicate this idea through the trumpets, who serve as the paper tigers, and the horn, who is challenging their bravura.

Split Wire explores the theme of a split electrical wire, where the two parts can still coexist but are dangerous when tampered with. These dualities are present in many different forms, including two different divisions of 7/8 time simultaneously, vigorous and placid tempi, and the juxtaposition of 16th notes and triplets.

Andrew Savage (b. 1997) is a composer of film, concert, and chamber music. His music strives to express stories, emotions, and concepts which everyone can connect with or relate to. His work draws inspiration from a variety of sources, from contemporary band composers, to minimalism, to electronic music, as well as most things in between. He is currently pursuing his BM in composition at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, studying under Dr. Mark Engebretson and Dr. Alejandro Rutty.
