Well here's my second solo effort. I spent the first half of 2018 going in and out of my studio in Byron at the industrial estate after taking 8 months off after the birth of my second child Arthur. I kind of stepped back from touring to re evaluate my approach. From the start with Wolfmother the approach was to demo songs by myself or with the group then do pre production with the band. Then track the record with a producer. This time I thought what if i keep the guitar and bass from my demos, go to L.A into studio such as Henson and do the drums and the vocals there and for that matter maybe even grand piano outro dam it! Every day I went into the studiolisten to  demos and think man that doesn't scrub up too badly, though it needs Sax, lets get a sax guy in, or what about a Cello outro or grand piano. In the past this has been seen as trepidatious territory, if the song doesn't work with a band in pre production then scrap it. So it's a different approach myself an engineer and the odd session musician one at a time. There was no label involved, I did have label people dropping in wanting to sign this record, which was nice for the ego, though essentially I knew this had to be solo and released myself. You look around and see everyone looking at their phones and you know they are right there, all around the world there's a direct relationship with an audience. From here I'd like to see a continuous amount of writing and releases. I've already got a swag of riffs ready to roll for the next batch. So creativily things are lighter and in terms of releasing things are easier at this point in my musical journey so to speak it's all about avoiding or lessening stress and working with people that I want to work with and actually creating a level of excitement during the process. Making a record in the past has almost been military like the producer is the head honcho, he has his engineers, chooses the studio's legally owns the masters till the end of the session. All I had to do was stay motivated and keep the ball rolling, which wasn't that hard. It took me a week before I had the balls to ask the studio to write producer Andrew Stockdale and Artist Andrew Stockdale, sounds like nothing after all this though it's a big deal in the studio, so anyways I've heard that animals essentially are always looking to be in a state of self actualisation, so I've followed that theory on this, I took the photo for the front cove, chose the studio, the players and the energy has shifted, maybe the whole team effort gives the allure that it will be successful cause there's so many people involved, which has been the case in the past, though it can also water it down and allow others to take things in another direction that may have not been intended. Anyways this is another chapter in my musical venture, there will be many more to come essentially I feel as if I've just cracked the seal and now I know this process is possible and I'm ready to pursue it even further.
