A night time biophony recording of a Great Cormorant colony not too far from Juodkrante, in the Curonian Spit. A chorus of marsh frogs, cormorants, some grey herons, barn owls and others. When editing I also noticed some action happening in the ultrasonic range, I wonder what that was… The recording was made together with my work and life partner Gabriele Griciute.

Night Time in a Great Cormorant Colony

27/11/2023 An evening parade in Chiang Mai during the Yi Peng lantern festival. The city center hosted a seemingly endless parade of people playing traditional instruments, dancing, carrying hand-crafted ornaments and various religious objects. The entire sky was lit up with lanterns flying, the nearby canal had a fleet of krathongs floating downstream. In this recording I am following a group of performers who are parading down the street.

30/11/2023 Late evening rainforest ambiences in Khao Sok National Park. Khao Sok hosts an ancient rainforest, which I was fortunate to explore a little. One evening I went on a solo mission to capture some evening rainforest ambiences. I started the trek at dusk and the sun went down surprisingly quickly. Pitch black, although I had a flashlight. This was my first time in the jungle and I have to admit my heart rate did go up quite a bit haha. But after a while, the initial adrenalin calmed down and it became incredibly soothing. Long-tailed macaques vocalizing, a brown wood owl (please correct me if I'm wrong!), and an insect chorus. Absolutely mesmerising experience.

Late Evening in Khao Sok National Park, Thailand

01/12/2023 A floating bungalow village on Cheow Larn Lake in Khao Sok National Park.
The first soundscape was recorded at night time, when most of the tourists and locals were asleep. Kayaks bubbling on the lapping waves, metal constructions creaking, crickets and suddenly Southeast Asian Toads (Duttaphrynus melanostictus) croaking in the mountain-peak-island next to the floating village. I've edited together three recordings from slightly different perspectives. Brass-instrument-like-sounding constructions, bubbling kayaks and floating devices, and this strange smooch-like-sound-creating insect that I couldn’t identify! (mayyybe Liara magna brachyptera?)

This track is made from electromagnetic signals and acoustic recordings from all around the BT Tower in London, but focusing mostly on server rooms.

About the album:

Innersounds: Location 23 is a conceptual, narrative-driven sonic portrait created entirely from found sounds recorded within London's BT Tower. The piece combines acoustic and electromagnetic field recordings, shaped into a personal response to the hidden sounds and ambiences of the tower. Over five field recording sessions, I captured sounds ranging from emergency generators in the subterranean levels to the outdoor ambience from the top balcony. Each segment is based on recordings in specific locations within the tower. 

The entire album, an alternatively edited continuous version and this track can be bought and downloaded on Bandcamp.

Starting with soundscapes and electromagnetic signals on the balcony at the top of the London's BT Tower, the composition then dwells into the subterranean levels and finally back to where it started in the opening track.

A recent recording Gabriele Griciute and I made in Alboinplatz, Berlin, near our home. A nightingale was singing in a tree by a street, another one was singing a little further away. It felt like they were duetting. There was a distant city hum, one person walked by, some ambulances and car passed by. It never ceases to amaze me the sheer number of nightingales singing in the evenings and nights in Berlin. Truly wonderful!

For some reason the a murder of Crows together with a mischief of Magpies started going into a frenzy on one evening in May 2025. Curiously it was a full moon. I recorded some of their vocalizations at Dusk and went to sleep. Then at around 5am they got right back at it, waking me up. I went to record again and captured this ambience, which I morphed to match the way it sounded while I was still sleeping.
