Suuuuuuuuuuper proud and happy to present you my next 12" via Lumberjacks in Hell that's out today!!! As maybe Mendel and Adrien will be able to testify I have been struggling with BROWN CURLS (performed by Khalil Anthony) for a couple of years, as I always had something that egged me about it. I dont see myself as a perfectionist but there is a certain line that mustn't be crossed . So it might come as no surprise that my favourite (released) version is actually not by myself but the restless genius Patchworks who transformed it into a perfect boogie bomb!!! Try it, it will work 100% !!!
But that's not even the title track! The EP is called IF YOU LIKE , hey? The track has been around just as long as the beginning of Brown Curls really and started as a remix, that morphed and morphed and morphed into what it is now, my take on a Afro-Boogie track. Thanks to everyone involved foremost Jan van Mastrigt on Bass, Derek van Beelen on Drums, Jair Wix on Guitar and Tim Jules on Keys.

Named a ‘stellar edits provider’ by Mixmag and the ‘nu-disco don’ by Juno, Andy Buchan has become one of the leading names in the disco and edit scene. His music and edits have been played by BBC 6 Music, Greg Wilson, Optimo, Massive Attack’s Daddy G, Horse Meat Disco and Craig Charles, while Andy holds down residencies across Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh and Southport alongside regular club and festival bookings.

With over 200 releases across chart-topping releases on dozens of disco-fried labels, including Peppermint Jam, Hot Digits, Midnight Riot and Paper Disco, Andy launched his Hot Gorilla Records imprint in 2020 along with Conan The Selector. The label hit the ground running, with several Juno Download No.1s, multiple Traxsource Top 10s and four tracks in the Best of 2021 Beatport chart. That led to the Hot Gorilla funky monkeys becoming DJ support for The Brand New Heavies' sell-out UK tour. 

Andy’s own music has been picked up for reviews in DJ Mag and Mixmag, plus radio support from 6Music and Rinse FM and club and festival plays from big-name DJs, including Bicep, Claptone, Horse Meat Disco, Greg Wilson, Peggy Gou, Justin Robertson, Electric Chair and more. That support took an interesting turn when the British National Library Sound Archive asked him to enter his back catalogue into their music collection! 

His previous residences include Chow Down and Flight Club in Leeds, Inventery and Grosvenor in Manchester alongside regular guest slots at legendary Edinburgh club The Street and the Southport Disco Festival. Alongside that, Andy has played across the UK in recent years, warming up for Huey 6 Music, Craig Charles, Dr Packer, Groove Armada, Psychemagik, Hot Chip and headlining at gigs in Manchester, Birmingham, York, Dubai and Todmorden’s legendary Golden Lion pub. 

This is just the latest chapter in Andy’s career. After freelancing for Mixmag and training as a journalist, he moved to Dubai in 2004, working for Time Out Dubai before launching DJ Mag Middle East. He was a regular on the club and festival scene, first with his own long-running, award-winning nights and with long-term residencies at Pacha and Trilogy, alongside back-to-back bookings for Creamfields UAE. It was in Dubai that he cemented his open-genre, curveball DJ style by playing alongside a wide variety of DJs like Fatboy Slim, Mark Ronson, Basement Jaxx, Todd Terje, Norman Jay, Liam Gallagher, Feel My Bicep, Graeme Park and more.

Now back in the UK, he’s become a mainstay of the disco scene while his label Hot Gorilla Records continues to grow into one of the most exciting labels in the scene, including festival slots at Beatherder and Standon Calling.
