Label co-founder JKriv delivers a trio of all-original cuts on his Something Else EP, bringing together a cast of featured hometown Brooklyn talent to center dynamic songwriting with club-ready vibes. On the A1 title track, a playful funk-laden bassline lays the foundation for an explosive hook and soaring vocal performance from Brandon Markell Holmes. Dynamic live instrumentation takes center stage in the soulful Try Again, which builds to an anthemic peak as guests Nic Hanson and Phenomenal Handclap Band intone the song’s hopeful message.

On the flip, the laid-back boogie groover Shoulda Been Me slow-burns with heavy bass, percussive rhythms, and serene synth-work to support the layered vocal textures by Toribio (of Conclave). Detroit legend Alton Miller takes the tune in a classic soulful deep house direction, with a bouncing rhodes pattern revolving over solid drums, and showcasing Toribio’s vocal prowess in a new light.

This one’s special. Same QuickServe philosophy: keep it tight at 1:45 and keep it tasty. Cosmic Phil slides in on a chill drum beat and bass line, then—boom—keys light up and start expanding. A haunting pad floats in with a little extra expression, and soon the arpeggiated digits start blurping like your brain reminding you it needs every piece of the equation. Then comes the equal sign—a wink that you’ve come and gone (and maybe practiced a little math along the way).

The QuickServe Pavilion in its first iteration depended on this track to get the cones spinning—hence the OG. It’s been with the app from the very beginning. I’m pretty sure I played parts on my actual computer keyboard. I thought about giving it a second go, making it longer or more “produced,” but honestly…it’s kind of perfect as is—short, sweet, vibey, done. Enjoy!

This year we have reached our long-term goal as a label which was to expand our releases into the wax department. We feel like we’ve done a good job bringing upcoming and original local talent to the surface so far and it is only fitting that our first vinyl release is done by the Icelandic duo https://soundcloud.com/davidhjalti. The duo has been busy with the production since their arrival from Manchester and have played a number of great live sets underlining their skills as producers. We feel that this release is the high standard we set ourselves before going vinyl and that this is just a small first step in a fruitful beginning for the producers David & Hjalti. The release features four excellent tracks which showcases terrific sampling work.

Deeply prolific Bristol-based house connoisseur Andy Compton has released over 50 albums and over 200 EPs (either under his own name or as part of his legendary group The Rurals, COMPTON or L.A.M.P, Blue Dream) on his essential Peng label and imprints like Motown, Universal, EMI, Sony, Ralf GUM’s GOGO Music, Chicago’s LARGE Music, Seasons, Viva, Hed Kandi and many others.
South Africa has embraced Andy's deep house sounds, and because of his popularity over there, and albums released via EMI, SONY, WEA, and now Universal. He has done over 20 South African tours in the past 10 years.
Since discovering house music in the early ‘90s Compton has released a dazzling array of music and worked with an army of artists. He’s been featured on the cover of the seminal DJ Magazine and had his music used in TV show Six Feet Under, while tunes like “Sweeter Sounds” have become bona fide anthems at spots like NY’s Shelter. He has worked with top class vocalists Celestine, Marie Tweek, Diviniti, Kafele, Rowan, Ladybird, Sabrina Chyld and many others!
Compton's Dj skills have turned heads and twisted bodies worldwide, with his thumping brew of electronic beats swathed in coolly-crafted melodies, with Peng becoming one of the premiere labels on the planet, garnering support from house big-hitters like Louie Vega, Larry Heard, Mark Farina and Osunlade (to name a few).
All this has solidified Compton’s reputation as one of the most respected house music players on the planet.
