After I dropped off an old photo album at the stage door of the Paramount Theater for Tom Waits around 1996 from the 1880's that was filled with pasted in columns of odd facts collected at the time from newspapers that I found in an antiquarian bookstore, (that I had left my  number in with a note), I got this call back from Tom about two days later. I knew he was into this stuff. Seven years later Tom called again, leaving a message that he wanted to use this old yellowed  newspaper text in the design of his album coming out in the late fall. It turned out to be Orphans. I remember finding it's CD box set with a booklet in my local record store in the Mission District, looking through the booklet for the imagery, then I noticed the CD sleeves were nothing but the imagery of the newspaper text, I remember thinking that day..."My work on this planet is done."
