Appropriate for advanced high school through professional orchestras, Blue Sky Basin is an energetic and mysterious exploration of the use of the string orchestra as a fiddle groove machine.  Interlocking polyrhythms and weaving themes make Blue Sky Basin an unforgettable experience.  The cello parts and 1st solo violin parts feature “chopping” as a rhythmic device. Includes optional solo section.

I met Alex Hargreaves years ago while jamming in Boston.  This summer at Christian Howes' Creative Strings Workshop, we spent some time exploring what I would call psychedelic twin fiddle jams.  Instead of playing just fiddle tunes or free improv, we are interested in combining their elements - finding improvised musical spaces that are informed by fiddle music.  We escape the form and support each other jumping off of cliffs, and this is the result.  Recorded on my iphone under a bench.

Solar Flare  - Commissioned by Harrison Central School District Strings, New York.  This piece combines high school, middle school, and elementary school orchestras (renamed the Photosphere, Chromosphere and Corona orchestras) for an amazing musical journey that evokes the outer layers of our sun.  

We had an amazing performance despite the weather conspiring against us with multiple Nor'easters.  This piece can be played exclusively by the folks in Harrison, NY for the remainder of 2018.  Violin and Viola parts played by Andy Reiner on 5-string violin, cello from Joy Adams and bass from Ian Haegele.  3 multitracked instruments x 5 parts per orchestra x 3 orchestras = 45 Andys, Joys and Ians!
