He looked at the cracked earth and up to the blackness that once held someone's hope. As he stepped, the crack of his bones echoed through the stillness. Even the memory of the empire crumbled underneath his grip. His hair fell in front of his eyes as hunched forward on his knees. He made no effort to catch his body as it, too, toppled under its weight. All he could taste was ash.

Time had stopped, but that was of no influence. It made no difference. Nothing would matter anymore. Nobody pities the last living soul just as nobody pities the dead when they are all that remain. What can the last living man do? What if that man is but a child? 

He lost his voice when he lost the ears that could hear it. His screams have gone silent. He wept and he wandered and he walked into and through nothing. He, himself, became nothing. If time were a thing, infinities would seem short in comparison. But, life did not exist before it existed. Through nothing, reality forms; a consequence of boredom. Fire leapt once more and, though he disappeared, life had been reborn.
