I went to Ricky Powell's slide show last night for the first time. He is a good friend of mine and has told me stories about these events for awhile. It's something he has been developing over time, and is the presentation of his images/stories/anecdotes/ramblings along with the music of DJ Smoke.

He comments on the images, the audience and whatever comes to mind; his old girlfriends, good bagels, corn dogs, titty balls, people who have slighted him and those that have stood by him. 

He has a big social persona that is projected to the outside. Our relationship is one where we get into what people don't see, what we don't want them to see, or  what they see and get embarrassed by. The difference between what we project to people and what is going on in the inside. We laugh our asses off about that shit. 

Along with his reckless, poetic, nonchalant, don't-give-a-fuck-what-you-think nature, he also revealed some real venerable stuff about himself and his past during the "show." His time with the Beasties, the falling out's, the stuff that you wouldn't know about by looking at the iconic imagery from the License To Ill Tour. 

So, I took out my iPhone to record some of the show. It was too dark to get good video, but the audio is good. It starts with how he got the shot of Basquait and Warhol going into their group show. Anyone who wants to get an insight into a moment in time or the creative process of a great artist/person please check it out.
