IntroDICshun is an excerpt from the critically acclaimed touring one-woman show "Reminiscence of the Ghetto & Other Things That Raized Me, written and performed by Angela Kariotis, directed by Paul Bonin-Rodriguez."

The whole show is about growing up in Irvington, NJ. This excerpt is about vernacular-how are people judged not by what they say but how they sound saying it. I was mesmerized by a talk by Toni Morrison, "America is breeding a nation of broadcasters. You can't tell anymore who's from where. Everybody sounds the same and that's a shame."

In this segment I liken the creative process to that of giving birth. The piece as a whole takes up new motherhood in cogent and topical ways. Serious and seriously funny.

This piece is the conclusion to the one-woman show "Reminiscence of the Ghetto & Other Things that Raized Me", first produced by The Rude Mechs in Austin, TX.

The girl scout troop leader asked the girls, "What is your favorite flower?" There were answers like, "roses because they are beautiful," "lilies because they smell nice." My daughter raised her hand and said, "Dandelions, because you can make wishes."

A fierce collaboration with my dear friend Junior O! This was a time when house music inspired much of my writing. I started writing poetry sitting on the speakers watching the battles with my pen and pad in hand at Club Vinyl with Timmy Regisford spinning (The Shelter, NYC) when I was in college. Spoken word to music?! We were ahead of our time! Play on, player!

She is winner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Playwriting Fellowship and National Performance Network Creation Fund Award.
