This was my first feature for First Voice Media, KPFA apprentice program on radio production. It was created for Black History month and it is dedicated to the memory of my father who fought in the civil war and who was an admirer of that great American artist: Paul Robeson.

Angelina Llongueras interviewed Jiwon Chung, president of PTO (Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed) immediately after the closure of the PTO International Conference that took place in Berkeley in June 2012. This interview explores what the role of PTO in the US is, as well as a bit of the story of this important social theatre technique created originally by Augusto Boal in Brazil and nowadays extended to the whole world. This is a rendering of Angelina's present  impressions on the Popol Vuh, a book that has taught and inspired her for many years. For Angelina the Popol Vuh is not only the Mayan creation history, astronomy, birth, corn, cycles of nature, etc, etc, etc, etc...that it is, but also a personal mentor, an Ancestor of the Indian nations of Turtle Island, who first came to her notice  in Amsterdam,  in last century's  mid nineties...it then led her to Rome, and to Mexico, to New Mexico and New York,  to Barcelona, Asia, Europe, and  to San Francisco and is now leading her to Chicago...

This radio piece was aired on 13 Baktun of the Mayan Calendar, i.e. 12.21.12 in Berkeley, CA....HAPPY AND LUCKY WATER SNAKE YEAR, by the way....

A poem written by Angelina Llongueras while Bradley Manning was still in isolation, published in "The Courage to Resist", "Reader Supported News" "East Bay Meditation Centre", and "Spiritual Progressives". It was aired on KPFA's "Full Circle" program on 11.2.12.

Angelina Llongueras, PhD,  is an actress, playwright,director, professor and researcher. She is also an interpreter, a translator, a free lance journalist and a voice over artist.
 Among her credits, a 2 year tour of Europe and Asia as lead actress in “Metamorfosis” by La Fura dels Baus.  Her own one-woman show, “Phoolan is Everyone”  was selected for the WPIC Conference in Stockholm in 2012 and  for Bogotá and Cali  Women’s Theatre Festivals in Colombia in 2010, after being  performed  in Ecuador’s 2004 Entepola, Barcelona, Madrid, Las Palmas, NY, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco and Berkeley. A multilingual actress and dramaturg, Angelina adapted Subcomandante Marco’s “Instructions to Change the World” for the stage and performed it in Dutch at Cosmic Theatre in Amsterdam and at the Rome Alternative Forum to the FAO Summit (this time in English and Spanish).
She is at present promoting her performance of Percy Bysshe Shelley´s “The Mask of Anarchy”, under the direction of Jiwon Chung . It premiered at San Francisco Art Internationale Gallery and for Occupy SF 1st anniversary and has also been played at Chicago’s Printer Row and the Abbie Hoffmann Theatre Festival.
She played under Almodovar’s direction in “Tie me up, tie me down” and “High heels” and under Juan Antonio Bardem’s in  the European award winning TV series “Young Picasso”, among other Spanish and American film directors.
Angelina l directed  “Pedro and the Captain” by Mario Benedetti for the “Berkeley says No to Torture Week”, and later, with actors Carlos Baron and Carlos Barrera, at Art Internationale Gallery in San Francisco. She directed a reading of Shakespeare’s Richard II for Subterranean Shakespeare and plays by Dürrenmatt and Fassbinder for her students in New Mexico. She coached a young actress in the creation of a poetical show based on Rodoreda’s poetry.
Angelina is a published author and researcher, a university professor, and an experienced translator and interpreter. Her “El Cobert” (The Junk Room) won the finalist mention at the 14th April Contest for Historical Memory in Barcelona and her “Lo Mein and Tequila” won the Raymond J Flores Award in New York. She wrote a book on Contemporary Indigenous Mexican Theatre. She has taught courses and seminars to immigrant, peasant and indigenous women in Spain and Mexico  and has given lectures in universities and cultural centres  in US, Mexico, France and Spain.
