Angel's sensitive, melodic voice carries deeply heartfelt, thought-provoking lyrics, supported by a mixture of traditional instruments and electronica including violin, double bass, synths and percussion.

The song is strong and emotive, it peaks and troughs with flows of human energy shared between the expert musicians Angel was so lucky to record it with and who have added so much beauty and flow to the song; Dawn James, Sam Berry, Stefano Galarraga and Lara Agar.

In loving memory of my friend Shelley.

This is a recording of the song I sang at Shelley’s Celebration of Life, after she was laid to rest last year. 

It was written from the poem I gave her for her birthday in 2007 called ‘My Friend Shelley’.

Angel Mawlabaux was compelled to write ‘Pandemic’ at the beginning of the COVID-19 quarantine period

She wanted to create a song to mark this unprecedented time in human history.  Acknowledging this is a rough time, yet also drawing attention to the surge of positive energy being shared around the world: singing from rooftops; rainbows in windows; co-ordinated applauding of the NHS in the streets, synchronised radio stations, new online community support group, neighbours notes through doors offering assistance, fitness classes on balconies, free online classes and activities… the list goes on and on.

The collective, constructive unity is inspiring and offers hope at a difficult time.

Lara Agar ~ Violin:

Lara is a talented violinist and composer who’s recently been awarded the Junior Fellowship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she studied her postgraduate Artist Master’s degree in Composition as a Leverhulme Arts Scholar! She has a wealth of performance experience, including within the grass-roots experimental London scene and impromptu, solo improvisation using voice, violin and loopback effects. ! am very lucky to have her musical brilliance woven into these songs! https://www.laraagar.com 

Stefano Galarraga ~ Bass: 

Stefano played double bass on every track of Out of the Shadows and Into the Light, apart from “Appreciation” where during recording at the studio, he unveiled his gorgeous 6-string electric! He also worked with me on the single I released in 2019 called ‘Can We Keep This’ and has performed with me live several times too. Sönke Prigge, Curfew Studios ~ Piano, keys, synths, mixing: 

Sönke of Curfew Studios is a BAFTA award winning composer/producer for BBC TV, MTV (Rob and Big Black), various independent films and a producer for several record labels. A classically trained piano player, he composed beautiful piano and synths parts for all of the tracks on ‘Out of the Shadows and Into the Light’. Sönke also mixed all the live instrument parts together, to create the beautiful overall sound.

I wrote this song in a Hotel room in Hungary, secretly pregnant! I added the last verse after the birth of our beautiful Son.
