Unedited segment of the May 11 captures of the class X gemomagnetic that rocked the skies with so many auroras.  Returning yesterday, May 13, to the open meadow location where this unedited recording took place, dooning the hadphones and flpping the switch, there was nowhere near the amount of activity as on May 11, underlining again the uniqueness of the event itself which astronomer's are saying is the strongest in 21 years and comparable to the Carrington event. Starlings coming to roost on the eaves of our house's roof - a domestic situation. I managed to access the cavity through the loft space, and place a small lavalier microphone where I thought they were roosting. This was largely inaccessible to human-sized bodies so I taped it to a boom pole and the rest was guess work.

The racket they make and the mimicry skills these wonderful neighbours have, are something to behold.

It's barely dawn and you're slightly nervous sitting in the backcountry of Yellowstone Natioanl Park, not sure what might be lurking in the hills. As you nestle next to wetland, sipping your coffee, myseterious sounds start to come from cattails. A few minutes later you start to see flashes of birds flitting in and out out the vegetation, sparking your curiosity and calming your nerves. Many sounds capture by those hydrophones they recognize--but some, they don't. In this episode I'll share some of these mysterious sounds with you. What do YOU think they are? 

Episode 279–Mystery Sounds

Wildifyed (stylised from Wildified) is the debut EP by Axel Wild, the artistic alias of Axel Drioli, released on Sounding Wild Records. This EP features meticulously selected loops created during Axel’s travels through West Africa with his brother, Ario, as part of the Wings Across Continents expedition by Sounding Wild, his immersive production house. Wildifyed captures Axel’s duality—balancing the patience of a birdwatcher, waiting days for a bird to sing, with the unrestrained energy of a 6 a.m. UK Bass dance floor.

The loops were composed during dawn car rides in remote deserts, uninhabited islands, and tropical rainforests, where Axel recorded wildlife sounds. Inspired by the expedition, he began sampling these recordings and transforming them into beats, ranging from lo-fi to house, funk, dubstep, and jungle. After returning from his travels, he selected the most significant samples and crafted them into tracks that tell personal stories. These stories explore themes like Axel Munthe’s legacy—the source of his name—brotherhood’s challenges, using dance to combat melancholy, and the powerful narrative of Gregory Coleman, the creator of the Amen Break, who died homeless and penniless, alongside the plight of endangered animals.
