"Benthic Wallows" was produced between 2021 and 2022, a collection of songs that emerged as I navigated my mental struggles in the early pandemic. During that time, I confronted the more hidden parts of myself; being trapped in loops, I was finally writing songs that began to scratch the surface of who I knew was, and I worked through to some deeper conflicts I had bottled up within myself. It marked a point where I began to step back from music to focus on other areas of my life, career, and artistry. Releasing a project from so long ago feels strange, and for a while, I wasn’t sure if I ever would put it out. There wasn’t really a reason to delay as it was finished, but I also questioned the purpose of sharing it at all.

The final track features my friend Tea, who recited a piece of his own writing—words that captured a feeling I couldn't quite express. By the end of "Benthic Wallows," the descending spiral of songs begins to lift. In real time, the music reflects a turning point: a moment of radicalization, a flicker of revolutionary optimism, a break from the despair that had weighed me down. It allowed me to envision the potential of what my music could be, but with that came the realization of how much more I needed to do to overcome the dissatisfaction I felt with myself.

Since then, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on and reshaping my future as a musician. Back then, I felt like I had hit a ceiling, yet these songs keep resurfacing in my mind. Though I’ve outgrown them, they continue to inspire me. I’ve wrestled with these conflicting emotions for years... but I’m ready to let this music go. I will be letting a couple shelved projects fly free, and I hope you find something in them that you can resonate with.
