You know when you break up with someone--particularly when its a bad break up and the other person screwed up? You have these fantasies that they're going to be really heartbroken without you; that they're going to pay or whatever...when really they're going to get over you too...

And the point of getting over them; isn't to wish them badly; its to be moving on so well that you don't even think about them

Everybody Wants To Be A Star ( Songwriting Diary 9/27)

When I was 5, I heard this song 
blasting on the radio 
what a melody! my life changed 
so I learned the keys, played guitar 
when growing up got way too hard 
I sang all the words, I couldn’t say 

It's easy to believe in fate 
when you won the talent show in the 6th grade 

and though I haven't won a grammy
nothing seemed to really stop me 
from dreaming I'd be holding one, some day 
from parking lots to musicals 
I played anywhere to get me close 
to something that resembled a big stage 

17 rolls around, took the first plane out of town 
picked a school out of curiosity 
I took some notes, listened as 
they turned music into math 
I was pushed to be the best that  I could be 

Its wasy to give up on fatih 
when you're doing what you love for the grade

I still haven’t won a grammy 
every year I know my family 
thinks that I am partially insane 
And even I wonder if 
open mics and practicin’ will ever give me 
more than just spare change 


I'm searching for a face for some kind of sign
