Mixes

Nowhereness is a new underground dance show conceptualised and hosted by UKAEA and Ani Kcam, both DJs and producers, and longstanding consorts in the exploration of sonic reverence. The show focuses on mixes which attempt to evade a clear or consistent sense of place in both time and geography. Attention is drawn instead to the veneration of rhythm, noise and atmopshere, and the ways these are exalted in the globe's historic and contemporary rave and club scenes. The pair cover alternate months, sometimes sharing the hour with a guest.

This month Ani Kcam welcomes guest DJ Isora to share the hour. Isora studied violin for 10 years at the Conservatory of Music in Italy, leading her to discover that her vision of life cannot be considered the same without music. She as inspired by electronic and techo music after moving to Glasgow and really found her passion for DJing during lockdown. Her goal is to enable people to go beyond listening, to feel and live the experience of her mixes which centralise the raw magic of the kick drum. Her mix for Nowhereness starts at this point, marching through a ghetto techno journey of wonderfully gross lyrics and wild rhythms.

Following appearances on Threads (London), Dublab (LA) and Mutant (Tbilisi), the fourth Dispatches episode comes out on Cashmere Radio. This mix identifies a few of the countless producers who have contributed to the significance of Berlin and Germany as a whole in the development of dance music. Historically celebrated names such as Oliver Lieb, WestBam, Jam & Spoon and Members of Mayday sit alongside an eclectic group of current Berlin residents including Alignment, Kyoka and Grischa Lichtenberger. In placing these artists together a sonic journey of techno, electronic and experimental music is offered.

Dispatches #003: Tbilisi [Mutant Radio, October 2020]

Nowhereness is a new underground dance show conceptualised and hosted by UKAEA and Ani Kcam, both DJs and producers, and longstanding consorts in the exploration of sonic reverence. The show focuses on mixes which attempt to evade a clear or consistent sense of place in both time and geography. Attention is drawn instead to the veneration of rhythm, noise and atmopshere, and the ways these are exalted in the globe's historic and contemporary rave and club scenes. The pair cover alternate months, sometimes sharing the hour with a guest.

The series is kicked off by Ani Kcam.

Ani Kcam is a DJ and producer based between Brighton and London who attempts to solicit movement and rapture whilst refusing to conform to strict genre-centric constraints. 

Nowhereness ||| Nowhereness is a regular radio show hosted by Ani Kcam and UKAEA (with occasional guests), broadcast monthly on Threads Radio. It is an expression of underground dance music that is global in influence, that suggests ideas of ritual, ceremony and cultural synergy, whilst recognising the original rave spirit that is fundamental to everything dance music has now become.

Dispatches ||| The Dispatches radio series has no regular home, instead broadcasting on a different radio station from a different global location each time. The series aims to recognise the increasingly global mobilisation of dance music over its history, and often acknowledges the location of the station with a responsive track list.
