An essential and prolific figure in Australia’s electronic music community, producer Reptant officially presents his new tech-house inspired alias Ulo. S for ANIMA13. What started as a one-off live experiment for Melbourne’s Techworld party series, Ulo now reveals Beat Seeker - an EP of serious groove and a pure timeless quality. Beat Seeker advances on the signature old-school electro Reptant style and merges it with euphoric melodies and crisp, driving basslines. A dear friend of Animalia, Beat Seeker is another family affair that truly represents our entire ethos of colourful and mind bending sounds.

Animalia would like to acknowledge that all tracks were produced on the traditional land of the Wurundjeri peoples, and pay respect to their elders past, and present. Sovereignty was never ceded.

"Dancing has always been visceral to me." The DJ and producer talks about bringing movement into her music practice and the role mythology and meditation plays in art and life.

The Italian-French DJ, producer and dancer Giulia Fournier-Mercadante—AKA GiGi FM—has had a varied, multidisciplinary career. Originally a dancer, Fournier-Mercadante received a scholarship for the New York City Ballet and the contemporary dance outfit Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater as a teenager. Finding the dancing world difficult to navigate, especially in its approach to body image, she graduated and moved to London to focus on music. It was there that she discovered techno and its capacity to heal. She started hosting a regular show on NTS, getting booked locally and then touring around the world.

Today, Fournier-Mercadante has integrated dance into her productions, which use motion sensors to transform physical movement into MIDI. Her use of her body as her basic instrument has led to a unique, kinetic sound palette that defines all of her tracks. In this Exchange, she unpacks how she's worked with this technique and rediscovered her love of dancing, as well as how spirituality, dream states and astrology inform her life and work. This was one of my favourite sets this summer, I was so honoured to be playing before the legendary DJ Nobu, and spent time preparing for this set gathering bright~dubby~daytime techno with a zippy flair and uplifting energy 🧚

The set features lots of tracks I’ve been enjoying this summer, including music by: Tsott, GiGi FM, Azu Tiwaline, Vladw, Al Wootton, Sindh, Luigi Tozzi, Konduku, Stojche, Ness, Ruman, Rene Wise, Fireground, Forest On Stasys, Kohra & Midnight Traffic +++

The outcome is a lovely example of how to blend genres to create a cohesive sound - two hours of deep, rolling rhythms - enjoy :)

Over the coming weeks, we'll be talking to different artists who are co-curating the 2024 edition of the festival. We dive into their creative process and explore their inspirations, all in honest conversations straight from the heart.

We’re very happy to share a new podcast episode, this time with Mama Snake and Martinou who open up about their upcoming and debut b2b set at our Aura next week. 

Though you might notice some contrast in their musical output, their connection to the hypnotic Nordic sound unites them, with both seeking those spine-tingling moments in music. They share personal stories about their close bond with the Draaimolen and Nous'klaer Audio teams, and how the festival's atmosphere will shape their performance. 

There were a few audio glitches, but the conversation was too heartfelt to cut.

The host of this podcast is Chanel Kadir, Draaimolen’s external PR officer who has been working with the team since 2023. Outside of that, she works across many different creative platforms within the music sphere including editorial-led platforms such as Untitled 909 and wav.world. She's also the co-curator of the F1-focused mix series G-FORCE and host of radio residencies across Netil Radio and Refuge Worldwide.

This podcast is edited and composed by Tilburg music producer Ramses3000, also known as multidisciplinary artist Yannick Verhoeven. Incorporating ambient, jazz, new age and psychedelic music, the classical and digital worlds meet in Yannick's sonic world. He has recently released his new album 'Thalamus' on Intercept Records, for which he spent three months in a monastery with the aim of composing music that helps the listener to relax and process the stimuli of everyday life.
