She had been only a babe when the waters had come, not as a flood but as the creep of an endless tide unmoored from its governing moon. From their ancestral village, her kin had fled, chancing their fates amidst the mires that surrounded their homes, which sunk under the rising depths behind them as they fled. She remembered little; the flitting of fireflies, the howling of wolves, and a singular, squelching sound - that of the sodden muck that had swallowed her mother whole, suffocating her in its soggy embrace as with her dying breaths she threw her only child from the reach of its maw. There she had lain unknown amongst the reeds, awaiting an equally certain end. There it was that the crone had discovered her, swaddling her in the sinewy comfort of her DARK EMBRACE.

Many years had passed uncounted since then, and under the crone’s guidance, the child had grown into her fitting progeny, possessing a magical ability of the sort that could only be inherited upon the pain of great loss. Such loss had called the crone to the girl, and now it was such loss that was the source of her magics, marking her in the eyes of many as a maleficent being, an evil creature wrongfully claimed by the crone. Yet the little witch knew a different truth, a baleful tale as old as both of her bloodlines. Such loss was the law of this wretched land, and only in channeling its vile power could she save the next unfortunate soul who was to be swallowed within the acrid bog that she knew as her only home. 

MIZO returns to EATBRAIN with DARK EMBRACE, an EP set to welcome the label's faithful horde into the embrace of their favored dancefloors as MIZO presents a grimoire of gluttonous basslines and menacing tonalities across the five tracks that lie within.

Alongside the delicious aggressiveness that made Audio so renowned, his ‘Beastmode’ LP cracks him open like you’ve never heard him before. Fiercely powerful, yet intricately different, each cut from his debut album on the Ram Records imprint packs a very different punch whilst hitting with the same fierceness and wealth of talent. 

‘Beastmode’ reflects all his output to date. Whether it’s the old-school flavor of virus, or the steppy-unapologetic riddims he’s served up for Ram, this record won’t leave you questioning who rules supreme over the genre’s murkier waters. 

Whether it’s the half-time, two stepping ‘Move it Along’ or the pulsing, snarling undertones of ‘Thud’, you’re blessed with a barrage full of fresh sonic assaults. ‘Thunder Ridge’ serves as the perfect opener, a brand new record with synth-laddered foreboding intro which pushes you below the surf. Tinkling hi-hats and a distorted LFO adds shockwaves throughout the mix, submerging you even deeper. Urgent, pulsing and nastily crafted, this is Audio at his most fearsome. 

On the other hand, ‘Rogue’ presents a clanking, runaway riddim that snaps its teeth with every break. Stacked between ominous build ups and jaunty samples, the second drop flairs out as angrily as the first, demonstrating Audio’s ingenious sound design. 

And flipping the switch once again is ‘Sovereign’, a nod to the producer’s roots and a track that gradually builds its presence throughout. Between warbling stabs and peddled kick drum, you’re drawn by the aural nerves. Elevating beat patterns set you up for another descent into madness, through a stringently tight composition. 

Featuring artists, such as drum & bass heavyweight Prolix, also take center stage. Their collaboration ‘Creatures’, alongside the revered lyricist Nuklear MC, adds a welcomed surprise. ‘Creatures’ delivers everything you’d expect and more; steroid-pumped subs, the dark overture of Nuklear and apocalyptic atmospherics. 

Also featured on its weighty track listing are singles ‘Make it Happen’, ‘Overdose’, ‘Drop it Human’ and ‘Shatterdome’. They were a precursor for what was to come, which signified one of the darkest, most uncompromising productions yet on Ram Records… In all of its twenty five years of history. 

Audio & Prolix - Creatures (feat. Nuklear)

The world’s biggest drum &amp; bass festival is approaching and with it comes some of the scene’s most formidable imprints. With over two decades of experience, Ram has heralded the genre since its inception. And this year, they’ll be taking over the insanely engineered Factory stage with a line up like no other, featuring the heaviest names across their roster.

In celebration of their stage takeover, the imprint has provided four fresh cuts to whet your appetite. In association with the festival, they’ve picked a host of names to provide a soundtrack to your summer.

Up first comes the long awaited release of Calyx &amp; TeeBee’s ‘Get it Twisted’. Following the runaway success of their 2nd LP on Ram, this is a welcome follow up, with reverberating LFO which flicks between the vocal talents of Calyx himself. Proving they’re kingpins of the game, there’s no better way to reintroduce you to Ram’s most resounding veterans.

Then the monumental collaboration between Rene LaVice and Current Value rolls out next. A pairing seldom seen, they bring together two varying styles that merge to create something both irrevocably huge and drivingly dynamic. With Rene’s tell-tale production standard merged with the gritty, tech-infused sounds of Current Value, ‘Calm the Fuck Down’ is anything but a wind down.

June Miller’s slice of stabbing bass ‘Spin Test’ is exactly what you’d expect; ingenious in its design, with pounding drum loops amongst a tightly knit composition. A duo who come with no apologies, they’ve been on the genre’s forefront since with debut 'Robots & Romans’ LP, and this next output proves they’re here to stay.

Changing the tone slightly is Ram Records guest Madface, who once again teams up with Janine Small for a stunning vocal number that provides a lighter hue. Soft pads and vocal crescendos bring you deep into the mix, demonstrating Madface’s ability to encapsulate the versatile sounds of the spectrum’s lighter end.

So, let Ram take you into Prague this summer… As the countdown is on until this year’s biggest drum &amp; bass festival detonates subs and ear drums globally.

The cold, sharp light of the full moon wrapped each of them in its bitter grasp, tendrils of the deepest anger and regret encircling them as the shadows from the dense branches of the grim forest of their surroundings. Their old friend lay prone at their feet, the gun that ended that precious spark of consciousness still smoking in Lenny’s hands, his weathered face cast down, cold eyes staring at the carnage of his making. Blood flowed darkly from the head wound, a growing treacle puddle reflecting the moon above in its metallic embrace, each of their faces around it mirrored darkly in that slowly expanding pool of their brother’s end. The curse that had escaped his lips as he realized the betrayal was seared into their ears, the final glance spiked through with heartbreak entwined in deepest hate burned into their retinas. But for all their regret, their patriarch had spoken, made himself clear… the family is violence, but it is not the twisted pleasures that he had chased, and the family line, when crossed – is the very end of consciousness.

L 33 cracks open 2018 with his inimitably heavy style of ultra funky and future-focused neuro on home imprint, Eatbrain. Their status as elite was undeniable, a twin humanoid team paired with the heavily armed hybrid, all of them augmented with cutting edge wetware and black-ops endtech. Gazing over the wasted metropolitan landscape of the old capital of this dead-end planet, they activated their internal dataspikes carrying their encrypted tasks and poured over the contents // RETRIEVAL - HIGHER LEVEL SONIC WEAPONRY WITH CAPITAL DESTRUCTION CAPABILITIES - COORDINATES TRANSMITTED & EMBEDDED IN SUB-SURFACE NEURAL LAYER // The subnotes indicated its capacity to disintegrate entire buildings with a highly focussed emission of intense articulated resonant frequencies. Looking around, evidence of this was clear, with gaps in the broken skyline, where the great towers of this city’s ruling megacorp once stood. Heaps of fine grey sand lay in their place, the result of the device’s terrible effect - reducing them to base states of entropy. The hybrid scanned the barren landscape with its ocular implants, marking the coordinate location in the team’s HUD systems and rapidly switching through the various optical spectrums of its threat detection system. They set forward determinedly, moving quickly through the ruins that remained, closing the distance to the objective quickly. They moved in deathly silence, their steps masked by phase cancellation pads in their boots, allowing even their hulking hybrid companion to move as a quietly as the whisper of death on the fringe of the wind. 

They took position upon the upper floor of a broken building, looking out upon the crater in which the device rested. The rival merc crew that was working with frenetic pace below to detach the weapon from its housing were basic operators, their heat signatures highly visible and open radio comms, real amateurs. Without a word, the trio dropped down from the vast height, the air moving over them without resistance as their suits excited and repelled the molecules that moved against them. Touching down in silence, their ruthless assault began - shouldering his chaingun, the team’s EM specialist rained a hail of fire upon their rivals with ruthless precision, each shot locked and guided to their mortal marks by the EM signals produced by the weapons of his very targets. His partner moved quickly from cover to cover, his implants working furiously, hijacking the soldiers senses and systems, disabling them and making them easy targets for the hybrid - charging furiously forward, devastating their ranks with its impossible strength. In mere seconds, the bustling center of activity at the crater lay suddenly silent. Without pause they passed through the carnage and approached the device, and gazed at the warning roughly scrawled on its surface ‘BEWARE!”.

The powerful drum and bass duo - TELEKINESIS - return for their 3rd EP - BEWARE! - on seminal tech label EATBRAIN. Their insertion of their latest spike of polished sonics sees the pair teaming up with label boss JADE, as well as one of the imprint’s embedded voices, NUKLEAR MC. With 4 tracks of weighted neural technology, designed to devastate both senses and the dancefloor, Telekinesis demonstrate slickly why they are renowned for consistent and poised sound system assaults.
