This set was originally performed at HÖR on May 27, 2022. Due to the HÖR's ambiguous stance, which enables oppressors through a 'both-sides' approach and the news of HÖR restricting many DJs from expressing solidarity for Palestine, 23 requested its removal. The platform's position conflicted with our principles and political views. We have chosen to keep this set on our channel for our fans and the artists' songs that must be shared! - we put a lot of love in our DJ sets.

@animisticbeliefs bring energy and innovation in equal measure whenever they serve up one of their electrifying sets or thrilling tunes. They are most at home when on stage cooking up captivating mixes of IDM, club music and drum & bass with smart infusions of influences from South East Asia and a sense of spiritualism that sees all things as equal. Their productions have come on labels like Cultivated Electronics and Pinkman and always push technical and emotional boundaries. 

The pair will be joining us at Dekmantel Festival 2024 in August and here offer up a teaser of what you might get: darkly involving moods, industrial textures and otherworldly timbres that are paired to a wide range of rhythms and tempos. There is a looseness to the set that keeps your body in constant motion while the details woven in between the beats keep your mind just as busy. From unusual instrumentation to foreign language vocals, this is an action-packed selection for peak-time dance floor fun.

POLAAR invite Flore & Animistic Beliefs - 23 Mars 2025

With MERDEKA, Animistic Beliefs broke free from external expectations
and reclaimed their ancestral narratives.
The album embodied a turning point on their ongoing journey
towards self-acceptance.

Now, with RE:MERDEKA, they pass that charge forward —
inviting a visionary lineup of 12 artists from diasporic, decolonial, and
experimental club circuits to rupture and rechannel its essence into new
frequencies.

Featuring contributions from Nada El Shazly, 3Phaz, Raja Kirik, twofold,
Exploited Body, Corin, Flora Yin Wong, Deena Abdelwahed, x/o, ZAH,
and Makossiri, each track is fracturing, magnifying, and reanimating
its themes further.

The reworks move across rhythmical architectures:
from fragmented percussive mutations to meditative hauntings.
Every composition a different dialogue.
Where the unresolved gathers form and stories breathe anew.

This collection continues MERDEKA’s first steps facing away
from Western club music. Leaning into polyrhythms, ancestral echoes,
and sonic influences drawn from diasporic and non-Western worlds —
worlds that amplify voices, emotions, and ideas that are too often erased.

We’re donating 50% of this release to the Sameer Project,
a donation-based aid initiative, led by Palestinians, working to supply emergency shelter and aid to displaced families in Gaza!
