Native Instrument is a Berlin based sound collaboration bringing together the fieldrecordings archive of Felicity Mangan and the abstract vocabulary of Stine Janvin Motland.

Often referred to as insect techno, Native Instrument’s music is constructed using electronic and vocal adaptations of wildlife audio recordings originating mainly from the Australian and North European fauna; mixing the natural rhythms of animal calls with digital effects and vocal imitations, Native Instrument enlightens a sonic ambiguity between rural nature, electronics, and the human voice. 
 
Over time, field recordings and human vocabulary become mixed up, indiscernible from one another – a sound illusion that ends in the creation of a new melodious wildlife genre.

With their debut release Camo, Native Instrument presents their true artificial nature; sound collages moving between tropical ambience, club inspired bug beats and amphibian trance. 

Mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi and pressed at Pallas in a first edition of 500 copies.

Model Home is a collaboration between NAPPYNAPPA and Pat Cain, along with whoever joins them from record to record. Thru the first 7 of their albums, all available via their home-cooked Bandcamp site, Pat, Nappa and guests (such as Greens and Boost) have aimed for the the "butt-naked expression," as Nappa put it once, of a sort of free rap music.

Future Times is very excited to announce that the new album, simply titled 8, features Dolo Percussion on drums and FX throughout, and is out now on FT. The tunes bring together a few of DC's music scenes (Rhizome, FT, DMV rap) into a huge smush, on some scrappy Capital shit.

Los Angeles’s Maral (@maral66) has spent the past half-decade quietly honing an approach that meshes the latest in club music contortions, a range of pulverized dub effects, and samples from her library of Iranian folk, pop and classical musics. More likely to be found working behind the scenes for local labels and club nights, Maral steps into the spotlight on Mahur Club, highlighting a trans-historical collage technique that emphasizes formal experimentation as much as it does personal history.

Exploring (rhythmic) psychedelia in both concrete and abstract forms, Mahur Club dials in on mashed out versions of Jersey club, reggaeton and dub, nodding to psych rock and trip hop via whirlwind takes on contemporary battle dance genres. Repetition and rapid sample chop are utilized on tracks like “don’t trip on your way down” and “lori lullaby”, pairing familiar dance-floor rhythms with waterlogged Farsi vocals in a sublime vortex of tradition, pop and functionality.

Mahur Club features material from ABE, DJ Abosohar and Loris. The release consists of two separate components; a cassette featuring two mixed portions and a free mixtape of individual tracks. Mastering provided by Will Mitchell, artwork by Maral Mahmoudi and design by Caleb Ali Miller.

Maral - try/again [APR121

"Music for Violin Alone" is my fourth solo album featuring compositions from Nicola Matteis Jr. (1720) to Angharad Davies (2020). Recorded in a make-shift studio in an empty house during the first week of April 2020 both as a response to all loss of work and a way to be heard again. The pieces on the album are the pieces I’ve come to discover and learn during the two years of maternity leave. Two years of maternity leave have also been two years of creative silence, a search for new approaches, repertoire and ways of playing. Only after finishing the recording process I realised there was a connection between the works - they have all been written by or dedicated to violinists-composers (with Oliver Leith being an exception) - J.S.Bach, Angharad Davies, Nicola Matteis Jr., Malcolm Goldstein (dedicatee of Cage’s Eight Whiskus and Tenney’s Koan).
The album opens with Circular Bowing Study by Angharad Davies - an exploration of a technique no matter how limited, it continues back through the ages with works that are filled with silence (Bach, Cage and Leith) and works with almost total absence of it (Tenney, Matteis), and closes with my own composition - broken harmonics of a string caught inside a ring.
It’s like a map of invisible violin sounds where past and present pathways are being drawn and redrawn over and over again until they are confined to a single technique or a broken sound or disappear into a total silence.

Outhouse Mix: claire rousay

'New Love Music' is Marta Forsberg’s newest work, a composition for sine waves, zither and a choir. Originally written and performed as an installation piece for electronics and LED lights (with performances across Europe and in Japan), Marta Forsberg reworked the piece and is now sharing it on Warm Winters Ltd., divided into three movements - New/Love/Music. 

Composed using sine waves, sampled zither and recordings of a choir, 'New Love Music' is an exploration of the absence of sound, the simple nature of sine waves, the fullness of the zither, and the warmth of human voices. It unravels slowly, and is “a practice of waiting and listening” even for Marta Forsberg. 

Releasing in full on October 16 2020 on ltd edition cassette tapes and digital files.
