“Demon Slayer battle” is a soundtrack inspired by an anime movie. It tells the story of a fight between a demon and a savior (demon slayer), and the victorious ending for the savior. I used different motives and sounds to depict each character’s superpowers. The soundtrack starts with the introduction of the demon, to set a context of terror. Next, the savior is introduced with horns, with his watery-like superpowers, that leads to the epic battle.

This music piece has a spooky vibe, with a lot of tension and no release. I thought of a mental state where thoughts are appearing and reproducing over and over again. The instrumentation and the voices make this piece very spatial and airy. It is a continuum that comes and goes, specially with the high pitch arpeggiated synth, and the low pitch synth pad. The gregorian chant that appears at the end makes it a contrast with the recorded voices filled with reverb and panned too. When played, this piece also provokes a peaceful sense with futuristic vibes, making it also important for a composer to let each person have their own interaction with the music and not impose an idea from the beginning. 


Suspenseful tension  - Film music

This track captures that strange in-between state of sleep — the sudden sensation of falling, the iPhone alarm cutting through the dream, and the moment your body refuses to move. Time stretches. Panic hovers. You sink slowly at first, then faster, spiraling deeper into the subconscious. The flute unravels into chaos, mirroring the loss of control, the accelerating descent, and the disorientation of sleep paralysis — until falling becomes the only possible motion.

My professor's feeback: "In my opinion, this is some of your best work, Ana.  The way you weave in and out the vocals with your sound world reflects a lot of craft.  If I had never heard this music before, I would have thought the whole piece was original.  I'm a tough crowd when it comes to this, but you did great!!!! "

Nostalgia in 6/8

I chose this composition that I call  “bolero alt”, to be in the key on B flat (Bb)  major. I found it to be not bright, but just the right amount of sadness, specially with the diminished chord. I chose the genre of bolero because I’m in love with it, and I wanted to give it a twist, which you can hear at the end. The orchestration and panning of the instruments is set to reflect various musicians playing at the same time in the same room. 
Moreover, even though I wrote and recorded some lyrics, I decided to put it in the back, as a reference to that sentimental nostalgia of home. After the Dina El Wedidi concert, I got inspired to add a saxophone to the composition as the main melodic instrument, and later on the piece transforms into a more upbeat groove with a lot of delay. Likewise, the drums in the majority of the piece are the classic bolero beats, that make a more vintage transition into a trap-vibes beat. The bolero percussion is from a sample I found on youtube, and I chopped it and edited it to adjust to my sonic visualization for the song. In regards to the harmonic aspect of the song, I start with chromatic chords of the Bb scale that go up and down again, to reference the ups and downs of feeling away from home. But at the end I chose to go out of context and make a beat that would try to escape from those nostalgic feelings.
In conclusion, for this composition I wanted to create a new version of bolero, with a different ending for different feelings. The instrumental choice, guitar and percussion, are really traditional of the genre, but my addition of the saxophone, inspired by Arabic melodies, was a unique touch to the song.
