Jon Gurd returns to Anjunadeep with the announcement of his latest album ‘Phoenix’, out on April 8th.

‘Phoenix’ follows the release of Jon’s acclaimed album ‘Lion’, out summer 2020, which reached #3 on the iTunes Dance chart and gained support from tastemaker DJs including Solomun, Stephen Bodzin, Adriatique, Ida Engberg and Shadow Child. Whilst ‘Lion’ explored themes of loss ‘Phoenix’ takes inspiration from themes of rebirth, marking the start of a new chapter.

“Phoenix was written during the UK lockdown last year. When things at home got to a pretty low point I asked myself what is the most empowering thing I can do right now and the answer was to make a new album. I’ve always wanted to make an album called Phoenix. I like the idea of rebirth and coming back stronger after big challenges.”

A respected selector and producer, Jon came through the UK underground in the early 2000s as resident DJ at the legendary Slinky in Bournemouth, warming up for the likes of Mauro Picotto and Paul Van Dyk. His early productions were championed by Paul Woolford, Sasha, Lee Burridge, James Zabiela, and Sander Kleinenberg, and Jon soon found himself travelling the world performing alongside the artists he’d been opening for not long before.

Following the release of the first single ‘Emergence’, Jon Gurd now shares the second single ‘Open’ ahead of the album release. Leading with characteristic bold basslines and cascading melodies, Jon showcases his intricate production techniques reminiscent of Jon Hopkins, Jacques Green and Bonobo.

“A lot of the album is about getting close to the bone of feeling, a lot like Lion was in a way, but this time trying to translate old subconscious memories into feeling. Memories of euphoria when I just started clubbing 20 years ago. The excitement of discovering and dancing to music for the first time. The feeling of connection on the dance floor with people you’ve never met before. The after parties, the whole thing.”

In celebration of the album release, Jon will be playing a headline show at Colours Hoxton, London on the 8th of April, following successful sets at London’s iconic venues Fabric and Printworks.

‘Phoenix’ is the latest album to be released on Anjunadeep, described by Billboard as “one of dance music’s ultimate tastemaker labels”. The label is known for discovering talents like Lane 8, Dusky, Yotto, and Ben Böhmer.

Way Out West (a.k.a Nick Warren & Jody Wisternoff) present their new studio album - ‘Tuesday Maybe’ - to be released on June 16th on Anjunadeep (“One of the hottest electronic labels in the world” - Hype Machine).

The pioneering duo have forged a reputation as as one of the UK’s most influential electronic acts in their 25 years together, reaching the Top 20 of the UK’s singles chart, touring their live show globally, and remixing the likes of Orbital, Unkle, James Holden, St. Etienne and Ian Brown.

In addition to their impressive collaborative back catalogue, the duo are both internationally renowned DJs in their own right. Nick runs the influential Soundgarden label and has helmed eight instalments of the iconic Global Underground compilation series. Jody released a solo album on Anjunadeep in 2012 and has since mixed the last four editions of the labels much-loved compilation series, all of which have topped the iTunes Dance Album chart.

They now return as Way Out West with ‘Tuesday Maybe’ their fifth LP, and their first in almost eight years.

Known for fusing elements of breaks, techno, trance and progressive house, Nick and Jody again combine wide-ranging influences on their new album. Title track ‘Tuesday Maybe’ has become something of a cult favourite since it’s release in early 2016, it’s haunting melody and rolling low-end becoming a firm favourite for the likes of Pete Tong, Lee Burridge and John Digweed. Parisian legend I:Cube worked his magic on an atmospheric remix that was supported by Mano Le Tough, Ricardo Villalobos and Maceo Plex.

Across the LP we hear a contemporary take on classic Way Out West elements, from raucous basslines and ravey breakbeats on ‘Set My Mind’ and ‘Slam’, to warm melodic deep house on ‘Lullaby Horizon’ and ‘We Move In The Dark’, featuring vocals from Hendrik Burkhard. The duo collaborate with five vocalists on the album, including label-mates Eli & Fur on opening track ‘Running Away’, and former Solomun collaborator Liu Bei on ‘Oceans’.

Released alongside the announcement of the album, ‘Oceans’ is a trademark piece of emotive dancefloor music from Nick and Jody, pairing textured melodies with haunting vocals.

Throughout 2017 Way Out West bring their well-honed live show to venues large and small across North America and the UK, with a notable performance at Glastonbury Festival in June the week after the album’s release.

‘Tuesday Maybe’ is set to be the eigth artist album to be released on Anjunadeep, an A&R hotbed celebrated for the release of debut LPs from Dusky, Cubicolor and Lane 8. With nearly 300 single releases and a string of iTunes #1 albums and compilations under its belt, the label has distinguished itself as one of the scene’s leading imprints, earning glowing coverage everywhere from Resident Advisor to Pitchfork, whilst receiving heavy support on BBC Radio 1 from Annie Mac, Pete Tong, B.Traits and Phil Taggart.

An evocative track that pairs hefty breaks and an engulfing synth riff, ‘Lion’ is "about the courage that you need to summon for situations where you need to take a leap of faith.” Jon goes on about the track’s contrasting emotions; "maybe you've got to find some positivity in a dark or sad situation, or there's a big change coming and it feels scary. You need to find that Lion inside of you to give you the courage to make the jump."

Dedicated to his older brother, the ‘Lion’ album  is the culmination of Jon’s experiences as a brother and father; his encounters with loss, and his subsequent progression as an artist and human being. ‘Lion’ lands August 14.

Jon Gurd releases the third single ‘The Dream’ off his upcoming album ‘Lion’, arriving August 14.

A respected selector and producer, Jon came through the UK underground in the early 2000’s as a resident DJ at the legendary slinky in Bournemouth. During his decorated career, Jon has collaborated with artists including Alan Fitzpatrick and Reset Robot and gained support from the likes of Adam Beyer, Sasha, Loco Dice and many more. 

A more melodious composition than its preceding singles ‘Together’ and ‘Lion’, ‘The Dream’  is the closing track of Jon’s album. The single embodies its title, placing soft female vocals on a backdrop of strings, arpeggios, and breaks to create a poignant, dreamlike soundscape. Jon explains: ‘The Dream’ concludes a lot of the questions that are in the album, and it’s the only track in the whole album that I’ve written about something specifically happening...”

Berlin based producer and live artist Ben Böhmer has become a breakout star of the past 18 months, amassing almost 50 million streams, picking up BBC Radio 1 support from Annie Mac and Pete Tong, including an ‘Essential New Tune’, and being featured in Billboard’s ‘Ones To Watch’.
