It's time to pull out your Ray Bans and roll up those sleeves, as "Bonzai Sunset" here premiered sees the boys paying homage to Jan Hammer and Ryuichi Sakamoto with a sunblushed Fairlight funk bomb beamed forward in time from a Baldelli cosmic tape. Boasting a rolling bass groove, synth marimba, zero gravity sequences and frazzled guitars, this jam's a one way ticket to the freakiest dancing. Already out!

The original version was created by Nick & myself, Autumn 2017, using various Roland, Dave Smith, Doepfer hardware, plus additional live percussion.

Cassini Division is Kyle Martin’s solo project. His previous remix on forg002 still sounds timeless, so we asked him to remix forg004. Kyle agreed and delivered a monster of a spacious hypnotic slow techno re-imagination!.

Kyle took all of the different elements & put each of them through his modular system & homemade modular fx, he then merged them with some other tones and percussive sounds that he created on his Macbeth synth, re-pitching the sounds to lower the frequencies & then adding various spring reverb
fx to create the spacious immersive atmosphere. The end result is a total trip... turn up loud, close your eyes....repeat!.

The Storm

Sinchi & Friends 63 comes from DJ Collective and music platform @whypeopledance. They are firm favourites of all music aficionados with a taste for the more experimental and as such we have been big fans and collaborators for a long time with music premieres going both ways on our respective platforms. As to be expected they provide a cracker of a mix in perfect timing for the weekend.

Introducing

1) Who are you?

Hi, this is whypeopledance from Lithuania. Well, actually it’s Vilmantas (Serial Experiments) from the team here representing our whole platform. The full crew includes Monika Seta and original founders Karolis and Paulius.

2) What have been your highlights from the last 12 months?

We’ve finished our event series in Kablys Club (in Vilnius) with Tolouse Low Trax and Cosmo Vitelli being our guests in the last events, and the new season is about to start very soon kicking off with Superpitcher. Our bandcamp label for free downloads MATERIA has also been gathering some attention too, which launched just a year ago.

3) What do you have lined up for the coming year?

MATERIA has a lot more releases planned. One of the latest tracks has just premiered over here, at Sinchi too! There’s also a more physical thing in the works, so watch this space…

Premiere: Tolouse Low Trax - Owasatan [Müstesna Records]

Jacques Charlier is primarily known as a visual artist, which obscures the fact that he’s been actively multi-disciplinary for the entirety of his career. Born in 1939 in Liège, Belgium, his interest in all forms of art began at a very early age when he aspired to be a poet, writer, musician, comic book artist, actor, and movie director, and in his own eccentric way became all of these things.

In the 1970s, inspired by the minimalist sounds of Philip Glass, Steve Reich, La Monte Young, John Cage, and Meredith Monk, Charlier armed himself with a custom guitar, and sound modulating effects and started experimenting on his 4-track. He performed psychoacoustic pieces in Liège, Antwerp, Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Milan and Düsseldorf, and in the inimitable performance art video “Desperados Music”, filmed by Paul Paquay in 1979 for Belgian television. Charlier hit a creative stride in the 1980s, recording off-kilter tunes influenced by everything from post-punk, EBM, Yé-yé and psychedelic rock. Similarities reside in the catalogs of Belgian labels Crammed Discs and Les Disques Du Crépuscule, yet even with these genre-bending precedents, Charlier’s music is idiosyncratic to the extreme. In 1984 and 1987, he self-released two cassettes incorporating synth, drum machine, his custom guitar, and vocalist Martine Doutreleau on occasional duets.

This limited edition 7” single offers the previously unreleased jangle/darkwave jam “Kiliwatch”, backed with “Loulou”, a scorching psychedelic oddity from one of Charlier’s original cassettes. It precedes the upcoming double LP compilation of Charlier’s music, and is the perfect introduction to his curious and complex artistic vision.
