Legendary sessions happen without planning or precognition. They almost always are the after-hours or transitional shifts when audiences are at their loosest, bordering on heading home and calling it quits. Keeping them engaged and really turning their brains to putty is an art in and of itself. Those waning hours, when energy and audience are both dwindling, calls for a keen sense of shamanistic guidance as well as an educated record bag full of rollers and percussive grooves. Progressive as a descriptor will elicit eye-rolls from some, winces of pain from others, yet it is impossible to deny the elevated state one can invoke when presented artfully in the proper context. As we near the end of “The Arsonist & The Architect” as a series, it’s worth giving the faithful followers something to cure all that ails them, resolve all their worries, and make their post-party a memorable one. Herein lies your “Panacea.”

@poly-chain very much takes electronic much into the future. The Kyiv artist born Sasha Zakrevska uses IDM, electro, and techno as building blocks to construct her own eerie, intense, and atmospheric sound worlds that are as cinematic as they are physical. Her edgy melodies are inventive, and her machine rhythms are hugely distinctive. She has not only written solo albums but has composed for theatre and museums, collaborated with Nene H, and released charity albums for Ukraine as part of her ongoing musical resistance.  

For this week's podcast, Poly Chain has sent us the recording of the very special live show she played at Dekmantel Festival this summer. It is an absorbing hour of beatless sound that will move you as much as any drum track. There are storytelling chapters to the set that takes you from darkened underworlds to starry cosmic expanses as the moods go from reflective and calming to more intense and unsettling. It is very much the sound of tomorrow, today.

Este mix de dos horas es la grabación de mi actuación en el escenario Lasai, el espacio dedicado al downtempo del festival BBK Live en Bilbao, España, durante su edición de 2024. En este set, quise reunir una amplia gama de mis influencias musicales, junto con muchos de mis temas favoritos. La primera mitad del set gira en torno a los 80 bpm, mientras que la segunda avanza hacia los 100 bpm, explorando una atmósfera que oscila entre la oscuridad, la contundencia y la mezcla de multitud de géneros, pero siempre con una fuerte presencia de lo emotivo y lo bello. Muchos momentos están cargados de contenido emocional, convirtiendo este set algo muy especial para mí. Fue un momento único no solo por actuar en un lugar al que tantas veces asistí como público desde que comencé a ir a festivales, sino también por contar con la presencia de mis padres viéndome por primera vez y con muchos grandes amigos a mi alrededor.

This two-hour mix is ​​recording my performance on the Lasai stage, the space dedicated to downtempo at the BBK Live festival in Bilbao, Spain, during its 2024 edition. In this set, I wanted to bring together a wide range of my musical influences, along with many of my favorite topics. The first half of the set revolves around 80 bpm, while the second moves towards 100 bpm, exploring an atmosphere that oscillates between darkness, forcefulness and a mixture of a multitude of genres, but always with a strong presence of the emotional and beautiful. Many moments are loaded with emotional content, making this set very special. It was a unique moment not only for performing in a place that I have attended so many times as an audience since I started going to festivals but also for having the presence of my parents seeing me for the first time and with many great friends around me.

"I've been trying to find a place for a couple of sequences in here for aaaaages and it's so satisfying when the pieces of the puzzle fit together in a way that tells a cohesive story. The Acid Jesus into Urgent track into Call Super sequence at the end I've had in mind for something like 2 years, DJ Steaw into Tracey Thorn into Leafar Legov I feel is a really nice turn around a corner and finally the 4 track sequence that makes up the intro gives me the warm and fuzzies as well. In the early hours of 2018 a duo of house preachers of the highest order was in control of the Ankali dj booth. Map.Ache and Sevensol aka Manamana hail from Leipzig where they run the label/recordstore Kann Records and if their debut Prague performance has taught us one thing, it's that the two know where the groove is at. We're glad we could share an hour-and-half long excerpt of their set, as the vibe they delivered is a supreme cure for the vicious frost outside.
