A tribute to the mad Italians in Etnica and Pleiadians. This mix contains - in my opinion - some of the finest moments in goa and psychedelic trance. Features tracks from Alien Protein, I.F.O., Live in Athens 1996 (best of unreleased CD) and compilations such as First Flight and The Independent Trance Revival.

While somewhat successfully scraping that covid-rust off our shoulders, we had several moments of pure joy in the last few months. One of the joy-gems surely was the San Trancisco night, which returned to the club after a drawn-out sleep and it was an awakening of dragon-like proportions. All the louder since our resident @yanmmxiv, who has been kind of secretly digging trance tunes lately, joined the jam. He was incredible – the whole thing was – and hopefully this recording will transpire to you as a proof. If you’ll need to feel better, or straight away ecstatic, put it on and the gloomy skies won’t matter anymore.

Ankali #017 – Yan [extract]

The Sardinia based artist Ludovica Frauu created the fourth journey of our Herbarium mix series. It's all about a very fresh sounding groovy journey, an exquisit selection of gems, we are very honoured to feature this wonderful trip. Its story reveals a wide spectrum of moods which are mixed together in a beautiful way. You will stumble upon diverse textures, polyrhythmic drums patterns and interesting harmonies.

To connect the mood of the mix to the herbal concept of the series, the artist chose the plant Capparis spinosa (caper), which she is particularly fond of. Her grandparents had a large plant in their garden. They used to pick its fruit and then process it. The plant is very hardy and grows even in the city, as it is able to penetrate its roots into the interstices of stones. In fact it is considered a rebel plant, because it decides how and where to grow. The flower is beautiful and elegant and is an unharvested fruit, bloomed.
The first part of the set reminds of the flower, the second of the plant itself.

This week's mix comes from Tbilisi. As a resident of Bassiani, Kvanchi provides the listener with a snapshot of what one could expect during a night at Horoom - the experimental/house orientated room of Tbilisi's most famous club. There is a clear deep house focus through this mix, a timeless sound that has provided us at Mantissa with the perfect soundtrack to the suddenly sunny weather.
