I wrote this piece for my GCSE Music Brief of '100 years of technology'; it presents musical trends, historical events and technological advancements over the past hundred years up to the present day. As it's a composition it isn't the neatest of recordings, but I thought I ought to put it up!

Time - Original Piece

Somewhere in France is the first piece that I have finished of the songs I have written regarding the First World War centenary. 
This short piece is dedicated to my great-grandmother's first husband Ernest Watson, whose words you can hear recited on this track. He fought in the First World War as part of the Worcestershire Regiment's 10th battalion, but unfortunately never made it home. We still have many of the possessions that were carried by him in the trenches, including a small postcard with a tiny, handwritten note. With this song I wanted to bring these words to life in his honour.
The opening section is based on an old bugle tune and chorus itself is a short folk song that I wrote a few years ago that seemed to fall into place comfortably yet unexpectedly.
(If you listen closely, you may hear the hum and rattle of the train that I travelled to Belgium on last December!)
