UNDERSEA, for ensemble and electronics (2022)

Undersea is the journey of a drop of water, percussive and perpetual on the piano like its impact on the ground when the tap is badly closed, towards the unfathomable depths of the sea. It takes hold of us, with its hypnotic loop, then that the flood of electronic sounds, resembling waves, vortexes, infinity, plunges our listening into the unsuspected abysses of sound.

"Earthward, Ever Circling" (2023) is the second piece in Anna Berg's trilogy that revolves around the ancient Vietnamese Buddhist funeral ritual of playing music for the deceased to help the soul in the reincarnation process.

Traces (2017) string trio

a soundpiece generated in max/msp, with samples collected over the past couple of years. it is inspired by a short text by Richard Brautigan, called 'Lint':

I'm haunted a little this evening by feelings that have no vocabulary and events that should be explained in dimensions of lint rather than words.

I've been examining half-scraps of my childhood. They are pieces of distant life that have no form or meaning. They are things that just happened like lint.


the music is different every time it is played, as the events are triggered 'randomly'. this is a recording from my lo-fi speakers in my bedroom in London. I intend to work more on this, but it has its charm like this so I thought I might share it.

Anna Berg is a composer from Kolbotn, Norway, based in Innlandet/Oslo/Paris.

Berg composes chamber music for a wide range of ensembles, from large ensembles and string orchestras to quartets and duo- and solo works. In addition she has a passion for new music for choir and she also composes electroacoustic works and music for film. Her music has been performed at concerts and festivals in the Nordic countries, among them at Ultima and Ung Nordisk Musikk.
