"When I started work on this EP I had a clearer than usual concept in mind. Historically I have tended to chip away at several sketches alongside each other, working until I have enough material to form a release. This time around I knew that I wanted to make a four track EP and that it would be geared further toward a club setting than some of my previous output. I also decided to adopt a faster and more methodical workflow; I would work quickly once I had the bare bones of a track, not allowing myself much time to agonize over the finer details, overcooking it, as is all too often the demise of a good idea. Once I had a shortlist of tracks to get over the line, I would finish them one-by-one in series, rather than simultaneously in fits and starts. Aside from ‘Toe Curl’, each track here was road tested in a live performance setting at least once during its development, forcing me to strip them back and emphasize their most exciting elements, and to remove any stretches that went on for too long unnecessarily. I think that this way of working has resulted in music that is less fussy and more cohesive than it might otherwise have been. Hence ‘Writ Large’: Clear, stark, exaggerated."
