"The tracks in Hesitate were largely born out of constraints; some self-imposed and some naturally occurring. A busy home life on top of a fulltime job in software engineering restricted my time to create. Surprisingly, this time crunch was the main driver to compose these tracks at a consistent pace. Given I typically have roughly 20-30 minutes at a time to make progress, I learned to use time efficiently. Allowing space between creative spurts also gave my ideas breathing room and resulted in fresh ears for the following session.

My history of using Max/MSP and experimenting with generative music gave me an appreciation for imposing additional creative constraints, intentionally starting with only a few simple sounds and ideas and slowly building out the structure of the track.

The sounds in these dance floor-ready selections share a common thread, largely centered around foggy or misplaced memories of past decades that evoke a personal yearning and nostalgia. I felt the title of Hesitate was fitting given the feeling of unease provoked by particular rhythms and sound placement in time. The title track, little-o and Keep present this unease through off-beat and broken break patterns and switch-ups.

Atlanta resident Nikki Nair invites you to join his new 4 track EP on Astrophonica - 'Renormalization Support Group'. It's a place where we can share our experiences via the help of Nikki's special 'not quite sure what you call it' bass lead Electro Breakbeat programme.

Track one is 'Plug' - An uptempo low slung booty shaker which will have sound engineers scrambling at cables and faders trying to work out wtf is going on. We've all been there so let's talk about it. 

Track two is 'Where Are U' and encourages us to ask ourselves that question through the exploration of full speed Breakbeat Electro. If we know where we are, we can begin to look into where we are going. Probably the dance floor.

Track three is 'it's NP-Complicated' which sets out an uncomplicated blend of bubbling bass and simple sympathetic drums, providing us with a network to feel more empowered and to build a sense of community. 

Track four is 'Donut Time' - Well done for finishing the course! You can congratulate yourself with a donut full of squelchy acid jam, glazed with frosted pads and hi hat sprinkles.

The "Cultus I" compilation opens with “Wig Split” by MOSCOW LEGEND & Ninety, a variation on one of the most prominent tracks featured in the dubplate series, with the eponymous vocal snippet revealed in this version of the mix. Cosmic Bridge's club focused 'Earthbase Series' continues with 'Nocturnal' the new release from Russian producer A.Fruit. Four tracks that fuse Footwork, Drum'n'Bass, Techno and bold sound design into the 160 BPM framework. After a heavy hitting set of releases via Russian imprint Hyperboloid, Irish modern trendsetters Rua Sound, and the ever vigilant Med School, so please welcome A.Fruit to the Cosmic Bridge roster. 

Label boss Om Unit says: "Anna has a rare ear in this 160bpm world; one foot firmly in the techier sound-design lane, and one in the world of fun dance floor sounds. Well mixed, and not too serious! It's great to have her on board and we look forward to sharing a stage soon!" 

Kicking things off is 'Make Them Shake’, a hypnotic and contorted expression of footwork with bubbling bass and drum FX - only for the boldest of dancers. ‘Polykarp’ comes complete with rugged old school hardcore chops twisted into a technoid stepper.  'Deep Insight’, is reminiscent of early Moving Shadow Jungle; hypnotic & minimalist with tight drums, glitches and jazzy late night moments. Closing track ’Before You Go’ is a breaks filled, garage-footwork workout; cheeky vocal cuts and rolling syncopated rhythms for your waistline!

We welcome for our final release of 2019, Germany’s very own Max Hock aka Es.tereo. This, our third release on our ‘Earthbase’ series, sees Max arrive with an already solid pedigree of output via such labels such as the now defunct but seminal Hidden Hawaii imprint, as well as German modern dnb staples such as Absys Records and Urban Poetry. His perhaps most notable previous work is arguably  his ‘Theme’ project (via Samurai Music) which saw universal praise from the leftfield dnb scene and beyond , taking the landscape of dub techno atmospherics into a whole exciting new format of 170bpm-led excursions, when most people where hypnotised by minimalist sub-lead dread.

‘Ra’ Sees Max taking on a whole new level of sonic architecture, with dense and complex arrangements that almost lean into modern experimental breakbeats, remaining coherent enough for dancers at your local jungle rave. The levels are however undeniable, this is modern atmospheric jungle taken to a different level altogether. 

‘This EP was conceived whilst focusing on different energies and the translation of mixing those energies into soundscapes.  Ultima’s Breath was the beginning and is the centre of the EP. It´s the ultimate Unification/Union of those energies I feel that came out of that process. All the other pieces came with the flow subsequently and I decided to explore the different vibrations and facets which lead to this similar feeling. I feel the result is this balance of 4 expressions of this energy.’

The EP Sets the scene with ‘Ultima’s Breath’ a frantic but atmospheric breakbeat meditation that opens the doorway to new levels of breakbeat layering that might excite fans of skee mask, square pusher and remarc alike, moving swiftly into the heavy hitter ‘Temple Of Ra’, a half-stepping but still energetic sound-system staple, coming with a kind of tribal slow/fast style but taking the idea to a whole new level of intricacy, whilst maintaining a concrete backbeat that DJ’s can be sure to be drawing for years to come. the B-side opens with a complex tech-stepping dnb roller in the form of ‘Ancestral’ wherein The Alternating breaks provide grounding for yet another complex landscape of percussion and brush strokes of reverb and melody that orbit around the core gracefully. The EP closes with ‘Flying Disc’ - a Frantic medley of minimalist percussive motions that seem to levitate above a dominating saturated sub-bass line that will test any decent system to it’s limits.

‘RA’ is the ideal blend of dancefloor and headphones that we feel we have been honing with our output at Cosmic Bridge, and we are happy to be a part of what may be the evolution of a dnb artist about to potentially transcend the genre itself. 

This is put simply, fresh as fuck.

Yoofee sent me "Arrival" shortly after the release of his "Visualize EP" on TTE and i played it in nearly all my DJ sets. The first drop hits you directly after the intro and can be a bit tricky in the mix but who said DJing should be easy? Of course Yoofee is always developing his production standards and therefore he was a bit shocked that i had to play the tune at this quality the whole time. ;) He polished it into a 110% better VIP version after i signed it for the compilation and i am sure you'll agree that it is one of his best works yet!

It's our favorite time of year! NYC/LA-based Worst Behavior Recs is back with their third annual compilation, "Worst Behavior, Vol. 3" and we couldn't be more excited. With the expert guidance of producer/DJ/promoter/label bosses Anna Morgan and Bell Curve steering the ship, we watched Worst Behavior come speeding out of the gate in 2018, and that momentum has shown no signs of slowing. With three compilations and several single releases under their belt, featuring BnC favorites like DJ Madd, Sinistarr, Samurai Breaks, A. Fruit, and many more, the label's output has been consistently high-caliber. When we think of uptempo bass music imprints in North America, especially in that sweetspot between footwork and jungle with a touch of rave and soundsystem culture, Worst Behavior is undoubtedly holding the torch.

Our premiere today from their third compilation offering comes from another BnC favorite: Leicester, UK's Jon1st. After originally gaining popularity for his phenomenal turntablism (see his 2013 Online DMC World Championship title or official routines for folks like Ivy Lab for credentials), Jon has been focusing more heavily on production the past several years, and it shows. His work with Copenhagen-based Shield has taken the global beat music scene by storm (if you have a chance to catch their live performance, don't miss it!) and his collaborations with folks like DJ CRAZE, EAN, and BSN Posse have been running the circuit in DJ sets and radio shows all over, too. However, today's offering comes in the form of the debut solo production from Jon1st, "Rose Point". A melodic double-time tune clocking in at 160 bpm with touches of amen breaks and footwork percussion that will be sure to get you moving in your seat, "Rose Point" was more than worth the wait for solo Jon1st material.
