From a few but very interesting club nights out in Berlin, to my discovery of the post-dubstep movement that basically paved the way to modern genres that I'm producing now, till the tens of hours of Rinse FM (or "radio mixes" idk which better) mixes I listened to at my new workplace where I was spending most of the day alone in the gloomy winter of the city.

I usually like to put a little playful touch to my tunes, but this time I felt like I had to focus more on a darker progressive-techno sound. Maybe because my sound matured, or maybe its just a phase. I don't know, but I'll keep on following the traces that brought me here."

A familiar favourite, Deft, steps up with his second EP on Hooversound, featuring a VIP remix of one of his original songs taken from his 2020 ‘Burna’ EP.

Defts ‘Burna’ EP back in 2020 set the tone perfectly for Hooversound, it being the second release on the imprint following Hyroglific and Sinistarr’s almighty ‘BS6’. Deft’s hybrid artistic style of production sat perfectly within the launch of Hooversound as he went on to rise steadily within the underground electronic scene. Fast forward four years, Deft returns to Hooversound with an equally impressive follow up, entitled ‘Two Years’.

Yip Wong aka Deft has been producing music for nearly a decade. Within that time he has crafted a signature style using elements of dance, cinematic sound design, hip hop, jungle, footwork and 140. This enigmatic style of production has led him to release on 20/20 LDN, Exit, 1985 Music, Critical Music and more. His release schedule alongside his ever evolving sound has gained the attention of not only London and UK listeners, but fans worldwide.

Defts new ‘Two Years’ EP on Hooversound once again sees the talented producer drawing elements from 140, footwork and jungle, all laced with his ability to create immersive atmospheres and intricate percussion. It’s been teased across SHERELLE and NAINAs DJ sets for months, with it finally dropping to the masses this summer on Hooversound.

With "Somnambulism", I invite listeners into a dreamlike exploration of the subconscious, where reality blurs with the surreal. This body of my work weaves together heavy basslines, haunting melodies, powerful rhythms, and atmospheric textures to evoke the feeling of wandering through a world just beyond the edge of wakefulness—dreaming with eyes wide open. The concept reflects that paradoxical state of being fully awake and aware, yet lost in a dream-like experience. It's as if the mind is caught between two worlds—one grounded in the physical, and the other in the realm of the intangible and unknown. Each track captures the transient emotions, fragmented thoughts, and vivid imagery that emerge in this in-between space, where the boundaries of reality and illusion dissolve, and both clarity and confusion coexist. It’s a journey through the subconscious, where one is both lucid and adrift at once—feeling the weight of the world while also drifting through the depths of an inner dream.

SOLA UNLEASHES HIGHLY ANTICIPATED EP ON RIOT DUBS FEATURING GENERAL LEVY, SKITTLES, CONRAD SUBS, JASMINE KNIGHT & SAMMIE HALL

Riot Dubs is set to ignite the scene once again with a powerhouse release from UK bass music heavyweight Sola. Featuring an all-star lineup of vocalists and producers, this explosive EP delivers a fusion of deep basslines, razor-sharp beats, and high-energy collaborations that push the boundaries of underground music.

Sola is a Drum & Bass trio composed of James, Robbie, and Paul. They have releases on Eatbrain, Jungle Cakes, Viper, Ram, Suburban Base, Dance Concept as well as their own imprint Grand Theft Audio. Their 'Tell 'Em' EP has been several years in the making, with Sola forging and reforging the tunes that would end up on this four-track release. Across these tracks, they lay out their bold vision of drum & bass, collaborating with top-tier artists General Levy, Skittles, Conrad Subs, Jasmine Knight, and Sammie Hall. The result is an EP that refuses to stay within any paradigm, instead opting for a timeless and unique sound.

The A-side and titular track 'Tell 'Em', a collaboration with the king of Jungle MCs, General Levy, sees Levy spitting deep bars over a reggae-influenced halftime intro about making a stand in troubled times-an increasingly relevant message. There is a DJ-Friendly Intro version (also included in this mailout) without the halftime triplet drums, to make it easier to mix.

Following this, 'Owed An Apology', a collaboration with Skittles, embodies a real Manchester sound, making it the most minimal and industrial track on the EP. Skittles' powerful flow erupts over a bouncy beat and edgy basslines, while atmospheric FX keep the vibes sky high.

For any fans of modern jungle, Conrad Subs needs no introduction. A follow-up to their previous collaboration, 'Squeeze' on Nuusic, 'Smash Up' has been destroying dancefloors worldwide for years. A true crowd pleaser, the funky hip-hop intro transitions into a roof-melting bassline with hard syncopated beats, which then shifts to straight percussion sections with bouncy bass riffs, creating a captivating call-and-response pattern.

Lastly, Sola showcases their deeper side with 'Free', highlighting both their musicality and the insane vocal talent of two of the most sought-after singers in the game right now, Jasmine Knight and Sammie Hall. Deep, powerful sub-basses and robust percussion anchor the melodic content and drive the track forward. Structurally, it's unhurried, taking the listener on a meandering journey through lush soundscapes.

With deep roots in UK bass culture and a relentless drive for innovation, Sola continues to make waves, and this EP is no exception. Expect full-throttle energy, cutting-edge production, and tracks that will dominate clubs and airwaves alike.

This is evident in the 2 tracks that follow, including 'Natural Selection' which is a headfirst dive into a traditional dark-jungle track, followed by fast-paced 'Temple Run' track which keeps things rolling. As a finale, the bonus 3rd track on this EP, 'Red Stripe' feat.
