A personal song, recorded on the piano on my boat. Since many of the songs I sing focus on women’s stories and perspectives I’ll begin the album with a gift from my female line.With all its slight jangling sound and creaky pedal I love this instrument. My mother - who went to school in Brigg, Lincolnshire - bought it for me after her mother, Helen Wood (née Taylor), died. This is a strong contender for my favourite love song in the tradition, for its gentle dreaminess. Sung by Joseph Taylor to Percy Grainger in 1905, with additional verses.
