This piece gets inspiration from Alvin Lucier’s Sferics (1988). Sferics musically explored electromagnetism from radio waves in the ionosphere. In this piece, I investigate the acoustic properties of electromagnetic fields and their translation into music. I am using MIRLC 2.0, a self-built library in the free Supercollider software. I am developing this library to allow the live coder to retrieve or rewire sounds based on music information retrieval techniques. You can find the first version at github.com/axambo/MIRLC.

The audio input signal is a personal recording of electromagnetic fields emitted by a home network router recorded with a self-built induction microphone. Based on these acoustic properties of the pitch, onsets and beats, a sinusoidal sound generator, a bit crush sound effect, and a bass generator are triggered, respectively.

Ana María Romano G. is a Colombian composer and interdisciplinary sound artist. Her creative interests center around acoustic and electroacoustic media and participation in interdisciplinary projects involving contemporary dance, video dance, performance and live arts. Her creative interests stem in the intersection of gender, sound and technology, listening, soundscape, noise, experimentation, improvisation, cyberspace, body and the political dimension of the creative. Her artistic works have been featured in festivals and published in physical support and by several netlabels in Latin America, Europe, North America, and Asia.
Currently, she teaches at Universidad El Bosque and Universidad de Antioquia. She is the coordinator of the Plataforma Feminista En Tiempo Real (Feminist Platform En Tiempo Real) dedicated to the encounter between sound and technology with focus on women and LBTQ+. She has been nominated to the CLASSICAL NEXT INNOVATION AWARD 2019 (Holland) for the work of making visible the work of women in the field of experimental sound creation with technologies through the Festival En Tiempo Real.

Anna Xambó is an experimental electronic music producer. Biased for being passionate about extreme digital minimalism and a past performer on bass guitar, she likes to explore the boundaries of digital sound focusing on low frequencies, compulsive rhythms, and noisy textures. Some of her works have been published under the alias peterMann through the experimental electronic music label Carpal Tunnel, which she has co-founded. Her latest solo recording is “H2RI” (pan y rosas, 2018).
