Chontane delivers six dynamic techno cuts via his ‘Sycamore’ EP on Mutual Rytm.

A firm fixture of the VOLTAGE roster and a rising name originating from Ukraine making an impact, Berlin-based DJ and producer Chontane is quickly finding his feet following a string of EPs via ARTS, Lobster Theremin and Rekids Special Projects. Already playing key clubs at the age of just 18, blurring the lines between techno, breaks and
electro with his growing trademark sound, his performances across Berlin and beyond have captured the attention of many as he showcases his up-front and powerful sound. Next, he heads to SHDW & Obscure Shape’s Mutual Rytm imprint for the first time as he reveals his six-track ‘Sycamore’ EP.
Lead cut ‘Preserved’ is a rugged yet soulful opener, settling into a rolling groove guided by crisp hats and sharp stabs, while ‘Arakis’ propels into more eerie and menacing spheres as waling vocals emerge and disappear into the track’s relentless dynamic. Opening the B-side, ‘Sitka’ fuses jacking drums with playful flute interludes for a
production set to get dancefloors moving, while ‘Laboe’ keeps things fiery as a peppy track which launches into fiesta mode. Closing the flip side, B3 ‘After Images’ reveals the most emotive production on the package, balancing the hard-hitting kicks with soulful vocals and hazy melodies for a classy slice of techno.

Once again, digital purchasers are treated to an exclusive bonus with ‘In Roots’ raising the temperature and jumping right back into the action to serve up another energising anthem from a label and artist on the rise.

Mutual Rytm welcomes back Swiss DJ/producer Chlär for a bustling, high-octane return as he unveils his latest six-track EP, ‘Intrinsic Drive’. 

Swiss artist and mastering engineer Chlär’s last outing on Mutual Rytm, his ‘Optimized Grooves’ EP, was a stand- out success that made an impact far and wide across the techno realm. It was another big step for the fast-rising producer, who is also a dexterous DJ that plays across three and even four decks in the club. A craftsman of sounds, his take on techno is full throttle and has come on labels like Iceland’s NIX and Stranger’s Self Reflektion imprint. Always looking to improve his sounds, he hits a perfect sweet spot with a fresh and visionary approach across six fresh productions with his ‘Intrinsic Drive’ EP, again showcasing exemplary creative progression in his ever-impressing production skills. 

Up first is ‘Dopamine Rush’, a quickened techno pumper with synths peeling off the straight-ahead drums and locking you into a state of hypnosis. The title track ‘Intrinsic Drive’ is a tightly woven mix of drums, hits and bass that never lets up, while the supple rhythm is overlaid with alien sound designs to up the intensity. ‘For Marco’ takes a heavier path with darkened and more weighty kick drums under eerie synth loops. There is a real swing in the drums of ‘Steady Pace’ as the crisp hits and vocal fragments all up the ante, before ‘Greedy Man’ delivers a tough panel beater with skewed synths and an industrial undertone. Digital bonus ‘May I Dance?’ rounds things out with raw textures and unhinged loops that take you to the heart of a strobe-lit dance floor, shaping up another mighty fine statement of intent from the ever more vital Swiss native.

German duo Glaskin make their full EP debut on SHDW’s Mutual Rytm imprint.

Glaskin is the alias of two brothers, Jonathan and Ferdinand, based in Munich. The pair have emerged as key figures in the city’s electronic music scene as longtime residents of the renowned Blitz Club, standing out a homegrown talents amongst its vibrant electronic landscape. Bringing a unique, forward-thinking techno style, as evidenced by their contributions to Mutual Rytm’s Federation Of Rytm II and III compilations in previous years, they now mark a new chapter and open 2025 in style with their debut 12” on the label, ‘Inertia Of Motion’. Each cut on the EP has been handcrafted with analogue gear, reflecting their distinctive artistic and sonic vision. The release is a direct outcome of the creative process behind their live set, which has become an integral part of the duo’s identity and shows a natural evolution of their singular sound.

‘Hush Up’ kicks things off with deep, rubbery and rolling techno rhythms. The drums are stripped back and laced with pulsing synth patterns and spoken word snippets that add a freaky edge. ‘Double Tap’ ups the anti with classic, pumping deep techno with smart filters adding movement to the track as urgent leads hurry onwards. ‘Inertia’ bring a more anxious atmosphere with tightly coiled drums and perc and eerie bell sounds ring out over the fat, twisted bassline. The brilliant ‘Tank’ brings mind-melting loopy techno with dubby chords and textured leads warming their way between the beats to great effect, while ‘Motion’ is suspenseful techno that locks you into a high-speed groove peppered with thumping hits and kicks. Last of all, digital bonus ‘Blushed Blue’ explores a moody, minimal, late-night techno sound that is warm, stylish and hypnotic to close the show.
