Singing upon the Water:
In the middle of the shimmering waves
Glides like swans, the swaying boat;
Oh, on the joy of gently shimmering waves
Floats the soul like the boat;
For from Heaven down onto the waves
Dances the sunset all around the boat.

Over the treetops of the western grove
The reddish gleam beckons, in a friendly way;
Under the branches of the eastern grove
Murmurs the reeds in the reddish light;
Joy of Heaven and the peace of the grove
Is breathed by the soul in the reddening light.

Alas, time vanishes for me on dewy wings,
In the cradle of the waves;
Tomorrow, time will vanish with shimmering wings
Again, as yesterday and today,
Until I, on loftier more glorious wing,
Myself vanish in the inconstancy of time.
